Your Best Life Begins Each Morning by Joel Osteen - A Review of This Book

May 11, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 115

This is a small devotional book designed for daily use to help start a reader's day on a positive and inspiring note using biblical scriptures from the New International Version of the Bible.

The book is very easy to follow, it is attractive and designed to appear to be personally speaking to the reader to help foster peace of mind and encouragement. It begins with a short introduction which instructs the reader to start each morning with a prayer to get in the right frame of mind by saying to God something like, "Father, I thank You that I have discipline, self-control, and the ability to make good decisions. Following that introduction there is a devotional for each day of the year that begins with a Bible verse coupled with inspirational reflections designed to inspire ordinary people to go out and expect great things to happen to them each day.

The first of January's devotional begins by examining where you would wish to be in the future and fulfilling your dreams. On January 3, we find that God is on your side and you cannot possibly lose. January 10, focus on your goals and March 10 encourages you to love yourself.

The book talks about how God is a loving, forgiving God that will reward the believer with wealth, health, and happiness. This attitude is the centerpiece of every day's devotion of getting a bigger vision of exciting things for the reader's future. And the future is filled with moments of increase, blessings, and promotions. It is an appealing message with plenty of advice to keep a good attitude and do the right thing and by doing so you will pass God's test which will bring promises of good things.

The devotional is quite uplifting and positive and accomplishes what it was written to do, to motivate, encourage, and expect great things. But in many of the Bible verses, Osteen often overly uses the concepts of prosperity theology, that wealth and power are rewards for devoted Christians. Olsteen only tells half of the story and half the meaning of the Bible of a just and holy God. He only focuses on the good news without talking about sin, suffering and redemption. He makes God out to be the resource for getting the best life now. His focus is all on what is in store for us and not so much about God's requirements. Osteen presents a cotton candy gospel where God is always the nice guy and we are nice guys too and deserving of nice things.

Osteen sees himself as a life coach, a motivator and not one who is going to tell you that you are doing wrong. He is not going to tell that sin is wrong. In fact, he seldom mentions sin and it's consequences.

So for an uplifting encouraging book to propel you to move forward, to raise your level of expectancy to renew your attitude to expect God's blessing, this book, Your Best Life Begins Each Morning may be the one. But if you are looking for what the Gospel message is really all about you may wish to look elsewhere.
