Fireworks, Celebration and Soul

June 29, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 201

July starts with an explosion of fireworks and celebration. It is always such a fun day and a reminder about what it means to be free. So, what is freedom? What does that word mean to you? I thought freedom meant doing what I wanted to, when I wanted to. But, after attending a Freedom Yoga Weekend Workshop many years ago at Mt. Madonna in California (where I received my yoga teaching certificate from Baba Hair Das, an Indian Guru) I learned that it meant so much more.

During that weekend, Baba Hara Das taught us that freedom's essence is liberation. Liberation is the cessation of thoughts that limit, suppress and oppress the natural divine flow of the magnificence being that each of us is. Only with right relationship to correct thinking are we really capable of being free. Sure it is easy to point our lives in the direction of where others would control our rights and liberties. But freedom always starts from within. It is always harder for us to look at ourselves, because looking takes a hit on our ego and demands that we be honest with ourselves.

The key to true liberation is within the confines of our own thoughts and feelings. What do we really have ultimate control of? We only have control of how we think and act. So we have to begin there, within ourselves, choosing and re-choosing the thoughts that allow us to be free. So I ask you - do your current thoughts set you free or leave you in bondage, trapped and feeling small?

The late, J.Krishnamurti, a teacher, had this to say about freedom (I am paraphrasing from his book, "You are the World"):

"Freedom is often misunderstood to mean living a life that is undisciplined, a self-indulgent kind of life. But true freedom requires a total revolution in the psyche itself. When the mind empties itself of the known, then the human being can undergo a complete transformation and experiences freedom."

How can you live a life that truly liberates you, a life of freedom?

Here are a few ways that will awaken you towards greater freedom

1. Make your ego your friend. Life goes a lot more smoothly if you are in right relationship with all parts of yourself - including your ego. Make a new contract with your ego, if you are not in right relationship with it. Your ego loves you to make a new agreement so that also can be set it free and to be what it needs to be.

2. Strive to have a deeper connection to your higher self as well. This is that part of you that is more tapped into the larger picture. It's like going from spotlight to floodlights. There is more to you than even you currently know so open yourself to that part of you and you will find a lot more freedom coming into your life.

3. Only about 30% of people will ever really get you. And for the most part, they are not the 30% of people that are related to you, so let go of those people supporting you and find your true soul tribe. There is a lot more freedom to be who you are when you find like-minded people that allow you to be you.

Soul and Energy Strategies' for the Workplace or Business

#1. In business or workplace, consider taking actions that will liberate you and allow you to focus on your natural brilliance (the innate gifts and talents that are unique to you).

Make a list of those tasks that you do in your work or business that you find irritating and annoying to you. The ones that you don't love to do. Then find the courage to think bigger, let go and surrender those tasks to someone else who may find them easier and more enjoyable. This may challenge you to liberate your thoughts about limitations in making more money and that would be an additional bonus for you and your business, as well.

#2. Strive for completion and not perfection. Set a deadline for whatever you are working on and strive to complete it rather than making it perfect. You can spend a lot of time on a project or you can get it done. Try getting it done in a timely manner and move on to your next contribution.
