Kyusho, the Ultimate Form of Self-Defence

March 12, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 208

After many years in training in traditional karate (33 years) I realised that something was amiss. I regarded myself as a good puncher, but when faced with a much bigger heavier trained opponent I found that he was able to take the punches. So because of this I started looking for a self-defense system that could be used effectively on any opponent regardless of size or weight.

So why use Kyusho? There are many reasons, using Kyusho in a self-defence situation has the great advantage that it does not rely on strength or physical prowess. This makes it an excellent form of self-defence especially if you are fighting a much bigger opponent. It is also an excellent self-defense system for women due to this fact. It is also great for the older age group as it does not rely on kicking and punching to be affective.

To learn Kyusho or pressure points properly you need a competent instructor and unfortunately this is easily said than done. Many people claiming to be teaching Kyusho rarely even activate the pressure point correctly during training. So it's essential that you do your homework first before you decide on an instructor.

Be sure that you are getting sound theoretical advice also, and they are teaching you the correct Chi energy (Ki) drills, and also point dynamics.

There are no special secret to Kyusho or no secret community you need to join in order to learn this devastatingly effective style of self-defence. it's actually easy to learn if you have the right instructor. Eventually the moves will become second nature to you and you will find everything slots into place nicely. It's really a case of practice makes perfect from there.

In Kyusho, I discovered that it is the nerves in the human body which can be utilised for self-defence. Unfortunately Kyusho it is not a quick fix formula for protecting yourself, you still need to understand how to attack the nerves, e.g. stimulate them, activate them, and understand what different body features respond to which move and so on. This all takes time to learn. Also you need to train for speed, power, timing. That said I have tested my theories on many large opponents from all over the world who were twice my size and weight and I found by studying the principles of nerve dysfunction I am able to use it effectively for self-defence.
