Suunto Computers - Perfection In Each Model That Every Diver Appreciates

February 19, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 145

Suunto passed a long way to perfection that we have today. It started producing field and marine compasses in 1950's and after few decades Suunto introduced one of the finest dive computer on the market - Suunto D9. It was great step in design and development of the precision instruments made by this company.

Suunto covers many needs of any person who just started diving or experienced technical divers by introducing broad variety of dive computers to our market. Beginners in diving will appreciate simplicity and functionality of Cobra and Cobra 3, D4 and D6, Stinger and Vyper, Gekko and Zoop. These Suunto computers were designed with intuitive user interface and have all functions to cover every diving situation, like No-Decompression, Decompression dives, and times of diving violations.

Experienced recreational and technical divers will put to good use Suunto D9, HelO2 or Vytec DS. These instruments were designed with technical diver in mind, because they can support for technical gas mixes. For example, we may set D9 and Vytec DS to 3 different gas mixes with variable value of the Fraction of oxygen, and dive computer HelO2 gives us possibility of setting up to 8 gas mixes with Helium component.

Several computers were designed with air integration that use hose and wireless transmission technology. It gives us additional benefits by showing Real Bottom Time Remaining and Tank Pressure to the diver. So we may plan our dives in great precision. Cobra and Cobra 3 use hose air integration and Suunto D9, Vyper Air, Vytec DS, and HelO2 have wireless air integration. It means that these computers use special transmitter that must be installed on the first stage of diver's regulator.

Suunto dive computers have following mounting options:

  • computer consoles, like Cobra and Cobra 3;
  • dive computer watches, like Stinger, D9, D6, and D4

Also we may use Gekko and Zoop in two configurations - computer consoles with pressure gauge or as wrist dive computers.

2011 was very fruitful for Suunto. This company introduced air-integrated versions of D4i, D6i and D9tx. Suunto D9tx was made as a mixed gas instrument. It is very new dive gear in our market. D9tx inherited many great functions from its predecessors - Suunto D9 and Suunto HelO2. It allows us to program up to 8 mixes with variable Fraction of oxygen and helium component.

This mixed gas dive computer has integrated Dive Planner for setting gas mixes, bottom times and decompression schedule. Also Dive Planner makes it easy to create recipes for gases and download them, PO2 settings and alarms to Suunto D9tx. You may even download from dive computer to PC dive data and compared real dive values with those that you have planned before.

Suunto computers are based on Suunto-RGBM (Reduced Gradient Bubble Model) algorithm. This modern algorithm was developed in cooperation between Suunto and Bruce Wienke. It predicts dissolved and free gases in the tissues and blood of divers.

The advantage of Suunto-RGBM algorithm is the additional safety through its ability to adapt to a wide variety of diving situations. Suunto-RGBM addresses a number of diving circumstances outside the range of just dissolved gas models by following actions:

  • monitoring continuous multi-day diving;
  • computing closely spaced repetitive diving;
  • reacting to a dive deeper than previous dive;
  • adapting for rapid ascents, which produce high micro-bubble accumulation

Suunto computers use unique technologies and principles, which make these dive instruments suitable for every possible diving situation. Below is a list some of them:

  • air integration;
  • continuous decompression;
  • several dive modes;
  • integrated digital compasses in some models;
  • altitude and personal conservative factor adjustment;
  • safe and deep stops settings

Suunto delivers a wide range of models that may easily satisfy demands the most capricious diver. Beginners, recreational, technical divers and freedivers will find computers that totally suit their demands.
