How to Make Simple Scrapbooks With Everyday Stuff at Home

April 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 149

Scrapbooking can be very expensive by the time you purchase the supplies needed just to make that one album! You look at the expenses for everything from the album to the paper to the embellishments; you end up stopping before you begin! There are things you can use at home to help you save a bit of money on this craft, instead of spending a bunch of money on "memories"!

Here are a few tips to help you save money by using things you have at home:

• If you already do other crafts you have plenty you can use by looking at what you already do and have! Look at what you have already bought first before spending money, even if it is left over's from other projects.

• Eyelets are traditionally used for sewing, now used for scrapbooking! Same thing with floss being used for cross stitching can be used on the ends of tags. Look at things you already do in order to get more bang for your buck.

• Cookie cutters make great die cut shapes by tracing the image on the right piece of scrap paper or regular paper! Cut out the shape using fine tip scissors and add to your page

• Need a circle, find a bowl or cup that is the perfect size you need, and trace around it. Same thing with any other shape you might have around, trace it and cut out the shape.

• Sewers or quilters might have a self healing matt; use that with a Xacto knife and things like a cup or bowl for things like circles. This type of technique can be used with anything as long as you are good with the knife.

• Alter a CD that you have such as older ones, chipped, or maybe a CD that you wrote the wrong file on...instead of throwing them away, alter them. Put them on layouts, or to make as ornaments for Christmas either on the top of a present, or for the tree. You can do many things with an altered CD

• Left over silk flowers from other projects can make great embellishments for scrapbooking projects. Just add a button or brad to the middle to create the look you need.

• A basic ruler, pencil, pink eraser, and fine tip scissors are always used for other projects - but can be added to a basic toolbox kit for your crafting. Simply get a container to keep everything in for use when you need it.

• Buttons from old clothes or left over from grandma's stash is great to use for your projects. Nobody ever knows where you got them from! Same thing with fun pockets from Levi's that might be ripped, or an embellishment from a shirt - might look perfect on the scrapbook page you are working on!

• When you receive packaging from things that you end up buying, look at things you normally throw away. I pick up chipboard, cardboard, boxes I can use to keep things in and more from the things I would normally throw away.

Your scrapbook albums do not need to be perfect for each and every page. Some of my pages are more like WTH moments, and others are like wow! Look at things you are attracted to - and see the list of supplies they used to make the item...and learn to find those types of things! While you are at it, make sure you spark your own creativity by using everyday things...and things you would throw away in order to make one of a kind project's for people!
