The Hidden Appeal of a Zadar Yacht Charter Holiday

June 07, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 197

A Yacht charter in Zadar is a wonderful alternative to spending a week by the Adriatic shores, since it affords you with incredible mobility and lets you experience the true meaning of freedom as it was only known to the sailors of old.

This is one of the oldest towns in Croatia which boasts a history nearly 3000 years long, with tumultuous periods marked by passing civilizations which have left marks on the local landscape, some of which can still be seen to this day.

Zadar is located in northern Dalmatia between Split and Rijeka and constitutes the capital city of the region thanks to its increasing importance as a commercial, economical and cultural center. Today it has lovely medieval architecture which is rivaled by few places on Earth today. If you look at postcards of the city taken from above, you'll find that it much resembles a drawing on paper. With only large Romanesque-style churches breaking up the straight lines of the picture perfect streets.

The old quarter is the most beautiful in town, located on a small peninsula within the city. Here, you can see medieval buildings baking in the sun, divided by narrow cobble-stone streets that give a strong feeling to the sailing tourists that time stood still a long time ago here.

As far as attractions are concerned, the inquisitive visitor can state that the people in Zadar were pretty religious, since today there are still 34 churches still standing from the old days, which today represent much more than places of worship, they represent great architectural vestiges and also places which offer a glimpse into the past.

One mustn't miss another attraction in Zadar which is the Roman forum, together with the Saint Anastasia cathedral, the University of Zadar (which was the first of its kind in the country) and the quite odd but very amazing Sea Organ on the Riva.

Not only a cultural center, the city of Riva also tempts the sailing charter groups of tourists with great shopping opportunities. Here there are many commercial centers that offer a great variety of merchandise, so that even Croatians from neighboring cites come here to shop. Among the most sought items are Pag laces and traditional sheepskin sleepers.

If you want to grab a bite to eat, there's a couple of things you should know about the local cuisine. The best words that can describe it are relaxed and reasonable priced. The whole laid-back atmosphere of the eating scene in Zadar wins over many visitors and many of them return for seconds. The locals will try to tempt you with delicacies such as ispod peka, which is roasted octopus under glowing ash from an iron bell. It's said to go well with the famous wines produced locally.

Don't go thinking that Zadar is one of those old places that goes to sleep as soon as the sun sets. The nightlife here is as varied as the daytime entertainment. In the daytime, the sleepy outdoor cafes are the perfect place to watch the streets and the people, but as night falls, they turn into loud places where many students enjoy drinks. The local paved seafront has a notoriety that stretches all over Europe for the beautiful sunsets one can view from here, as well as for the uniquely beautiful sounds of the Sea Organ.
