The Gulf of Papagayo is known as the all-inclusive capital of Costa Rica. These resorts line the beaches although some of these resorts are within the walking distance to the next. Tourists come to this place to have their Costa Rica Vacation. Tourists love the calm and warm waters found in the protected gulf which is perfect for both snorkeling and swimming. The fishing in Papagayo is phenomenal especially in the inshore. Many of the resorts here are offering onsite entertainment and non motorized water sports which is perfect during summer. The northwestern Pacific is one the driest climates in the country. The beach areas have steady round temperature with day time highs averaging in the upper 80s to lower 90s. The night time lows in the upper 70s. According to the Costa Rica Tourism that North Pacifichas good surf year round. The consistent Papagayo winds from early December to March create the ideal waves perfect for any levels of surfing.

Wind is the signal that Costa Rican summer is almost coming. The northern Costa Rica experiences the consistent Papagayo winds from the Northeast and east. The signs of the Papagayo winds blowing in the northern part of Guanacaste is a signal that fishing in the south will be better. These Papagayo winds are the strong winds that blow in the Gulf of Papagayo, Costa Rica. It is a localized wind accompanied with clear dry hot conditions that does not affect the coastline south of Tamarindo. The driving force of these winds is the Caribbean trade wind that pours over the narrow and low land and into the Pacific Ocean. These famous winds slow the fishing in the northwestern part of Costa Rica but anglers enjoyed the mackerel and small yellow-fin tuna. Papagayo wind will begin to blow at around the beginning of December from east across the Lake Nicaragua to Pacific Ocean. This is an annual occurrence and can last for about months. What happen during this time is the wind pushes the surface water offshore and the upwelling water does not have enough oxygen in order to support the sailfish, but when the wind blows, the population is more concentrated in the southern and central portion of Costa Rica.

There are no finer cruising grounds in the Central America than those passing through the Marina Papagayo. The waters of the gulf have much to offer to the sailors like gliding calmly along the coastline under the power of the winds. Most tourists go for Costa Rica Adventure tours in order to experience the Papagayo winds that provides for faster sailing. The Papagayo winds are short period and usually 12 to 16 feet tall. It's like you are sailing through the surf. Some part of the wave will slam the boat and others will break over the boat. To safely sail with Papagayo winds, the boat must be properly outfitted and rigged. Sailing in this kind of condition can be one of the most exciting adventures you can experience in your life.
