Dubrovnik's Yacht Charter Appeal

June 06, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 159

Some yacht charter regulars agree that Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful medieval cities in the world, not just from Croatia. The fact remains that this is a very popular coastal town on the azure waters of the Adriatic.

The name Dubrovnik seems to have been predestined for sailing as it translates to "town that came from the sea" and navigation on water does indeed play an important role in the daily life of the city. In fact, as many visitors might find out when coming here, the harbor is the beating heart of the city and has been so for ever since the town was established.

In recognition of its fine touristic potential which affords people some great Dubrovnik yacht charter holidays, it has been nicknamed "The Pearl of the Adriatic" although in older times like the 7th century when it was founded it was known as Ragusa.

It still stands on the same location today, in the south of the Dalmatian Peninsula, being pretty accessible. There is a local airport which facilitates yacht charter groups from other countries arriving in Dubrovnik. The distance from the city is 20km which means short transfer times, guaranteeing you'll be on the water in the shortest time. Best of all, the airport connects to major European cities such as Frankfurt, Vienna, Amsterdam and Paris.

Locally, there are connections by road and railway to other important resorts on the Croatian coastline such as Split. However, these might not prove the best way of arriving in Dubrovnik since in the summer time they tend to get very crowded which translates into longer travel times. In order to combat this, many tourists prefer to arrive by ferry from a number of locations that connect here: Rijeka, Stari Grad and Sobra. Though some of these trip can take as long as 20 hours, at least they're much more spectacular.

The first thing you'll notice when arriving in Dubrovnik is the multitude of Renaissance period buildings, many of which are tourists attractions such as the Sponza, the Rector's Palace or the St. Saviour church and the Franciscan monastery. But the first thing that will probably grab your attention is the impressive construction that constitutes the city walls, built a long time ago for protecting the harbor against the winds but also from possible invaders. Today, they simply provide a stunning view, 25m above sea level.

When you tire and go hungry from all the sightseeing, head on down to the historical center where you'll find some nice meals in the best restaurants in town. Be warned though, a little exploring and experimenting is in order so you can find the one that suits your tastes the best. You should be aware though that the local cuisine does make use of the freshest local ingredients that tickle softly the taste buds of those who dine here.

Like in many other places in Croatia for sailing holidays, at night people go out in search of fun and that's when Dubrovnik seems to come to life. Remember that the two best places to have a fun night out in Dubrovnik are Stradun and Lapad which are 2 promenades. But much like in the case of the hidden restaurants, the best local clubs are hidden in the old quarter. All you have to do is follow the party crowds and the loud music.
