Charter a Yacht in Thailand

May 29, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 183

Thailand remains one of the best yachting countries in Southeast Asia, due to a number of factors such as rugged and untamed landscape, complete with magnificent beaches, as well as an exotic culture and tradition that fit in perfectly with the esoteric local populace.

If you're a western tourist, expect to find here some of those things advertised in your travel journal: lush tropical jungles, rocky islets surrounded by azure waters and hidden ancient temples for strange and old divinities. If that sounds like a bit of fun, then you should definitely charter a yacht in Thailand.

The main region of interest for yacht charter enthusiasts is the Phang Nga Bay in the Andaman Sea. Famous for its incredible limestone cliffs jutting out of the sea to a height of several tens of meters, the Phang Nga Bay is also home to some of the best marinas in the country.

These you'll find on the island of Phuket, the largest island in the country, roughly the size of Singapore and, coincidentally, the richest province in the country. It should please you to hear that a large part of that profit comes from tourism which means the locals rely heavily on the money visitors spend, thus ensuring they offer the best services in order to have returning customers.

Yachting in particular is held in high regard here and much of the local population is employed by the marinas and the yacht charter companies in Thailand. Visitors are always treated with respect and courtesy and you'll find that most of the people working here are diligent and take their job very serious.

One of the most popular regions in Thailand for the younger crowds is Patong Beach, a long stretch of sand which hosts the best parties around and thus has gained notoriety for the wild nightlife you can find here. A trip is well worth it if you're into loud music and even louder groups of people.

Because Thailand makes a large part of its internal revenue from tourism, the immigration laws are pretty lax here and more conservative visitors might even take offence at the way some of their countrymen understand the generally relaxed legislative norms.

However, you should take into account some basic rules of conduct. For example, when dealing with government officials, special care should be taken to wear decent clothes. Given the hot climate, this might mean that mean might be required to wear a short-sleeved shirt or a polo T-shirt, while for women it means they should cover their shoulders and thighs.

Visas are not necessary in case your yacht charter trip in Thailand will last no more than 30 days. This period can be extended by a maximum of 10 days. When entering the country as a yacht charter crew, you'll be given a coming 30-day visa which is not extendable. You will need a proof of your skipper abilities in case you want to charter a yacht, but just about any form of official certification will do.

Among the most favored activities that you can engage in while in Thailand are free diving, snorkeling, diving, sailing and yachting, as well as scuba diving.
