Using a Clothes Steamer to Keep Sales Flowing

April 19, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 262

Everyone knows that keeping the clothes on display in a retail store looking good is crucial to sales. If an item of clothing is allowed to get grubby or creased or otherwise out of pristine condition it's far less likely to sell. It may end up staying on the racks til the end of the season or need to be sold off at a lower price.

Sadly, many stores regard such losses as normal practice. They may insist that that shop floor staff use appropriate clothes hangers and take basic precautions to ensure that all items are kept as clean and neat as possible, but if an item should become soiled, little is usually done about it except consigning it to the specials bin. Sometimes- when an item gets slightly worn for example- that is the only thing to do, but not always. It's often possible to return clothing to near perfect condition with a clothes steamer.

Steamers can remove minor dirt and stains, and ease away creases without the need for ironing, which can be expensive or time consuming. The process can quickly transform a slightly tired business shirt that has been tried on by a dozen people and manhandled by many more into a beautifully crisp, clean item ready for purchase. Even the fussiest customer might think that they're looking at a brand new product straight out of the box.

Steaming is far quicker than ordinary ironing and there is often no need to lay clothes flat or work around difficult seams. It's also fairly easy. These days many young retail staff don't have a great deal of experience with an ironing board but with only a little practice they should be able to use a hand held clothes steamer perfectly effectively.

It may not even be necessary to take garments off their clothes hangers. Staff can give a large number of items a quick freshen up very quickly and easily at the beginning or the end of a day or week, so all clothing on display stays looking at its very best. There is no need to allow any piece to become shabby, crumpled up, or soiled. No garment need end up being sold for a reduced price- or worse, allowed to bring down the tone of the whole display by not looking quite right.

Some steamers also come with a range of handy accessories that will help the person using them to maintain a garment's sharp creases. Matching upholstery brushes are available too, in case the clothing needs a quick brush down as well as a steam.

Of course, steamers can also be used in the home. They aren't expensive and the process works just as well on family clothing freshly out of the wash as it does on the clothing being sold in a shop. Steaming is quicker than ironing and much, much easier in any context. Compact models are available for homes and smaller stores so it's not always necessary to invest in a large industrial unit.

The author recommends Displaysense for the best clothes steamer choice and for any other shop fittings.
