Beating Summertime Business Marketing Stress

May 30, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 191

Summertime is normally a fun time of year; kids are out of school, everyone is going on vacation, and you can't forget about swimming lessons and ball games. Some businesses, however, may tend to disagree with the "fun" aspect of summer. Many companies thrive in the summer, while others tend to slow way down. Trying to find ways to keep current customers coming in, or trying to obtain new business, can be a challenge. So most businesses choose to do one of two things; either try new marketing tactics or find ways to help with their current processes to decrease costs to get through the tough months.

The summer vacation season, or any slow time, is a great opportunity to try different marketing strategies to bring in sales. Key tag and plastic card printing loyalty programs, new promotional materials such as brochures, flyers, and posters, or even a simple email or mailing could rejuvenate your business. The key is to keep marketing going, and keep it fresh and fun. Do not think that just because business isn't booming doesn't mean you must stop marketing to cut costs. Customers have hectic lives in the summer trying to juggle work, kids, activities and other functions, and giving them a great marketing piece, such as a plastic postcard mailer with a sale or promotion attached, will get them thinking of you again and back in the door. An email campaign can be effective as well, or simply hang a banner outside your store. No matter what you choose to do to market your business, just do it! Don't put it off and miss opportunities.

Often times, when a business is in their off season, it is a great time to evaluate their internal processes. For instance, is there a better way to ship products? Could I find cheaper shipping labels? Do we switch to laser plastic cards instead of thicker, pre-printed cards? Basically going through and breaking down your business and trying to find ways to improve will save you money and time in the long run. When you carry the best practices forward into your peak season, it increases revenue and efficiency that much more.

No matter if your business is slow, or in peak, reviewing your marketing strategy and operations on a routine basis will keep your business running smoothly and more profitable. Change can be a little scary for some, but it could be the difference between losing profits or a successful season. So don't wait, start now!
