Top Traditional Pubs of London

May 29, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 195

Although you might want to spend some time at the bar in your chosen Hyde Park hotel, London has its fair share of fantastic public houses to choose from. In this article we'll take a look at five of the best locals, all within easy stumbling distance of the popular royal park.

For traditionally brewed ale and delicious home cooked sausages there's nowhere to beat the Harp. This nicely decorated bar has been the home from home for generations of local residents and visitors staying at Hyde Park hotel. London Pride may not be on tap, but before you know it you'll be engaging in some banter and sipping away on the fabulous Thornbridge beer. You might even be invited to partake in some fun bar games in the early evening.

Newman Arms

If you hear complaints regarding the amounts charged by some local pubs during your stay in London then fear not. The Newman Arms serves a range of reasonably priced ales and light bites to keep you going through the day. You might be interested to hear that the famous author George Orwell was once a regular frequenter of this pub.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese

This pub was rebuilt subsequent to the fire of London in the mid 17th century. Since those early days it has been visited by many a thirsty traveller on their way through England's capital city. You can just imagine the gentlemen of the early modern period resting their legs in this gloriously decorated establishment. Today it is generally frequented by people on their way home from work and in need of some friendly company.

Princess Louise

The well-to-do Victorian's would have ensured that they stayed well away from those that they perceived as riff raff in this public house. Today the people staying at a five star Hyde Park hotel, London workers and even the local college students all mingle together. This is another place that offers relatively cheap drinks and plenty of excellent entertainment. You might even be lucky enough to catch some evening music, played by one of the many local bands.

06 St Chad's Place

You really should stop off at this surprisingly excellent pub before departing from your Hyde Park hotel. London magazines have highlighted the appeal of the train themed murals. So even if you aren't intending on having a few drinks this place is still worth visiting. The friendly bar staff may even let you in on a few of the fascinating pub stories.
