St. Brendan's Restaurant Review in Green Bay, WI

April 03, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 102

I went to the restaurant St. Brendan's for dinner and as I walked in I felt transported to the country of Ireland, without the expense of a plane ticket. The decor is done with much dark woodwork accompanied by hanging stained glass light fixtures. The focal points are their gorgeous massive stained glass windows that surround the dining room area. Also on display, is a hand painted picture of St. Brendan's with a prayer and other various Irish saying on the walls. Make sure to take a look at everything. Situated towards the back, in a corner, is a charming cozy sitting area with a real wood burning fireplace. They have a long bar and lounge area with small tables and a wooden bench for relaxing. They offer a full bar which also features 14 imported tap beer, which is quite impressive.

There is a hostess stand situated between the bar lounge area and the restaurant. After a small wait I was seated at a table by a window. My server came soon and brought me their menu and a glass of ice water. St. Brendan's offers not only specialty entrees that are known to Ireland, but they also have American dishes. To start off with, I ordered a cup of their Country Bacon and Leek Soup for $2.95. For my main entree I ordered the Guinness Pot Roast for $13.95. My server brought my soup out to me with two homemade whole grain biscuits served with two Kerry Gold Irish butter patties on the side. My soup was hot with a thick creamy texture and served with a good mound of diced fresh bacon on top.

The soup had a nice salty balance and added with the light flavor of the sauteed leeks made for a pleasing favorable taste. The biscuits were moist with a soft texture and tasted delicious. Next came my pot roast. The roast was served on a large deep white plate. Alongside were the mash potatoes and fresh vegetables. The portion of each of the three was very large. The pot roast was shredded with gravy on top. The meat was extremely tender and savory, the mash potatoes were creamy and smooth, and the fresh vegetables which consisted of broccoli, shredded carrots, and green beans were warm, tender with a good flavor. St. Brendan's has a warm cozy festive atmosphere with good service and delicious food.
