Trade Policies With China and the Obama Administration - Are You Kidding Me?

February 14, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 115

Why are so many companies off-shoring or outsourcing? Why are some of the corporations building things in China rather than the United States? I would submit to you the reason is because of over regulation, hostile unions, taxation policy, and too many lawsuits - yes, yes, lower cost labor too. Thus, the corporations move their operations to places like China. If you step back and think about it from their position and with a corporate decision making process way of thinking; why shouldn't they leave, they've been poorly mistreated, and we are destroying our industrial base because of it. Okay so, let's talk about this for a moment.

As the United States and China discuss important policies having to do with military, trade, and economics we seem to be giving political lip service to some of the real challenges afoot. There was an interesting article recently in Reuters on February 13, 2012 titled; "Obama eyes more money for China trade enforcement," by Doug Palmer which stated;

"President Barack Obama, on the eve of a high-level Chinese visit to the United States, proposed $26 million in new funding to make sure China and other countries play by the rules of international trade - "This is designed to increase our capacity to bring additional trade cases that will level the playing field against countries around the world, including China."

Excuse me but this is rather pathetic, consider that there is nearly a Trillion Dollars of trade a year with China. We have "one" FDA office in the whole country, and a million cargo containers per year delivering goods to the USA, and Obama believes somehow that $26 million is going to be enough to enforce our FDA regulation and rules? Are you kidding me?

Come on, it's time to get some real leadership in this country otherwise it's time to call Rosetta Stone or go online and order a course to start learning Chinese? Maybe the Obama Administration will buy free language lessons after they turn over the keys to China.

If the FDA in the United States has a budget of $5 billion per year, and now half of the drug manufacturers in our nation have moved their operations to China, then theoretically the amount of inspectors to handle that sort of a load would be equal to or more than half of the drug manufacturing inspectors we currently have in the US for our companies here, plus the cost of having employees overseas in a foreign country.

No one can deny that the drug manufacturers can make their products cheaper in China, and there will be some cost reduction carried forward to the consumer. But if we think a mere $26 million which is what this administration has budgeted for the FDA offices in China is going to be enough to enforce these things, then maybe we are on drugs? And that's just the drug manufacturing, do you have any idea how many food products, ingredients, and other things that the FDA is supposed to watch over come from China? Perhaps we should all consider all this and think on it.
