How Real Estate Marketing Has Changed

June 21, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 163

Those that are involved in the business of real estate, and especially with real estate marketing, know that the method of doing so has changed much in just the last decade alone and has changed drastically over the last twenty to thirty years. Some basic principles remain the same, but for most agents, it is either keep up with the latest marketing techniques, or miss out on a huge customer base.

For one thing, most of the listings that are being found these days are online. People simply use the internet in place of old media, which included the newspaper, or the listings at a real estate office. The internet is where people go to find real estate, and if you are not listing your properties there, you are probably missing out on most of your customer base.

It used to be that people would simply watch the newspaper if they wanted to get the latest real estate listings, but the paper nowadays have a very small percentage of the listings that are actually available. As far as their office goes, while there may be a very current and extensive list of all of the properties, most people will look online first.

Driving around looking for houses with signs just isn't something that is done anymore either, and many other ways of marketing this just don't exist anymore.

A website is probably the most important thing that any estate professional should have. These days, a website is the office of the past, and yours needs to be well furnished, easy to find and extremely professional. In other words, your website should be easy to find in the search engines, be well designed and loads quickly, and is easy to navigate.

Your website could be the first place that people come in your local area if they are looking to buy a house, or rent one, if you offer rentals as well. However, getting your site in front of those people requires search engine optimization that you may need to hire a professional for.

You should not forget the important tool of social media in today's market. In fact, a Twitter or Facebook account with follows that make up your buying population is one of the best ways to market your real estate, with the ability to update potential clients of brand new listings in real time.

Whatever real estate marketing you decide upon, the fact is that the world has changed. The very basics of how people receive information and make decisions have changed, and estate professionals who do not keep up with the changing world will fall behind. However, with these changes come brand new opportunities for sales as well.
