The Essence of Planning

June 11, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 183

We have all heard the saying, "Time and tide wait for no man." And, yes it always seems that no matter how hard you work, how fast or how well you plan, Trickster Time can and will always find a way to trump your plans. (Gee, thanks for nothing!!). Hold on, I am going somewhere... read on.

Truth is, Time cannot be controlled. But, we can definitely make the most of it!! Time is of the essence of a well put together plan. So, start planning EARLY!

"Wasted Time is Lost Time", yet, how many of us (including me) choose to ignore this fact? As humans, we choose to ignore the things we cannot control, hoping they will just go away, or better still, vanish! But, they seldom do.

The planning phase of a project is essential and rushing this process is never a good thing. The effort it takes to consider every possibility, flaw, alternate courses of action, priorities, deadlines, so on and so forth, takes time. So, taking this necessary time to properly plan something is actually time well spent. You can take the necessary minutes and hours to put your thoughts on paper, devise proper and realistic timelines and execute without having to worry if you will have enough time or resources to make changes should something go wrong during the implementation phase.

A well thought out plan speaks volumes about the preparer's dedication, commitment and analytical skills. If your plan covers some crucial points that other managers or executives have forgotten to address, then rest assured, they will be very glad you thought of them, thereby helping save lots of time, energy and of course, money.

Proper planning in any area of our lives requires informed decisions to be made and, these decisions cannot be made without taking the time necessary to research, learn, compile and compare our findings into a plan that makes sense for us, our family or company. (The benefits one can reap from proper time-management is definitely the scope of another article, but, I'm sure you are getting the idea!)

Busy lifestyle choices interfere with our priorities. So, here's a tip: drop the unnecessary and commit to what is really important. Take the time necessary to focus on the important things in your life and work and, not only will you see your plans and dreams take shape but, you will also experience the fulfillment of executing a well thought-out plan. Your projects and dreams are too important to be left to chance so, make the commitment to invest the time necessary to develop your plans properly.
