Conquer Stress - 3 Power Plays for a Positive Attitude

July 25, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 145

I have the BEST parents in the whole wide world! I might be a little prejudice but I'm serious when I say I'm fortunate to have the positive influence of my parents. Maybe that's beside the point or maybe it's not, maybe there's something to this. Growing up we had words that were barred from our vocabulary or at least we couldn't say them at home like can't, won't, no, not. You know all the negative words. At one point I thought my parents were absolutely ridiculous and they saw a LOT of eye rolling from me. I used to think what's the big deal, if I can't I can't.

Well obviously some overnight phenomenon happened, they turned into geniuses! I completely get it! How could they possibly know by forcing out negative thoughts, makes room for positive thoughts making failure almost impossible? Positive attitude not only makes good things happen, but it also reduces stress believe it or not. Here are a few tips I practice when I'm headed down under.

3 Tips to a Positive Attitude

  1. Always look at the positive side of any situation. I know sometimes it may be difficult to pick out the bright side, but try! I know for me, using this tip helps me keep things into perspective. More times than not, situations are not as bad as they seem at first.
  2. Get rid of the "Debbie Downer" in your life! Misery loves company and if you surround yourself with negative people, you'll soon find yourself in a negative downward spiral. When you're caught up in the tornado it will negatively affect every aspect of your life! Like any contagious disease, limit your exposure!
  3. Spend more time with people who are uplifting and motivational. Just like the "Debbie Downer" is a downer, being around a positive person can be just as contagious. Heck, why not shoot for the stars, take that extra step and be that positive role model others migrate to. Just knowing that you can positively influence another person is rewarding, uplifting and it just plain feels good!

Quarantine negativity at all cost! Harboring negativity amplifies our feelings and causes unnecessary stress and anxiety, who wants to live life like that? Not me! We are in complete control on how we react to any situation. Keeping a positive attitude usually keeps everything in check laying a strong foundation for achievements and/or solutions. Also, if you have someone like my parents who can help you stay on track, by all means, lean on them when you're feeling down or in a rut. It's amazing how smart they are if you look at the bright side. And last but not least, always remember, attitude IS everything!
