Taking the Toboggan Down

February 25, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 152

Open up the chute! and let us travel quickly down to the porous ground. With five friends before me, I act as a rudder to direct our slippery skid. And as we carefully slide over several glassy patches of lubricated ice We learn how to dampen the whiteness of an untrodden snow But more than anything else, it is the camaraderie that I like!As we huddle upon a wooden sled somewhere out in the lifeless suburbs, near a blazing set of cantankerous fires

And because fighting the harshest elements would appear to be the most important goal We clench our teeth and shut our eyes, while streaming snowflakes circle the orbits around our weary heads. And as the fullness of the bodies before us act as a handyman's shield, Our hats and scarves made from mother's finest knitted wool, provide warmth to insulate us from any disconcerting questions that might bring an early end to our lofty, exacting flight.

But the finest part of this exhilarating endeavor may come from the dreamlike imagery that occurs as we smell fragrant pine needles and remember the happy Christmas's of old. To be bound with our brothers, frolicking in the yuletide weather, Thinking about Clydesdale horses and pulling ourselves up upon the cold festive reign could certainly turn out to be one of the most gratifying things that any of us might ever happen to experience.

So let us remember every goose bump and cherish every smile For the dreams of winter celebrations are magic maps whenever we have hot chocolate waiting in the fore, Because they usually include fond memories of good friends who will always greet us there. So when the task is done and we have carved our intricate paths in February's frosty wind Let us descend to the ski lodge as we can all begin to nestle by the flaming hearth and tawdry bellows.

Warm cognac and voluptuous sweaters will enhance the ambient atmosphere as our thoughts shift to all of the rudimentary sensations that will make the winter evening glow A brass bed with delicate feathers made with the finest Canadian goose down Golden slumbers and Scandinavian crepes covered with the sweetest syrup extracted from the sapling of an old oak tree But be sure that the decrepit radiator is working and that the drapes can be pulled down low For it is in the blackness of the night that I saw a brown bear with a pink salmon jiggling gently between its teeth

But it is the wetness of the mountain air that gives my big body a discomforting chill The screaming of the hawk and the sound of the condor would seem to have molded their rightful place in the loud recesses of my mind. So maybe it is only about restoration When the nagging concerns and worries transform themselves into concrete rustic images and other naturalistic scenes

But above all I love the pretty animals that continue to survive in this lovely one-horse town, Whether it be a bold moose with a bent rack Or a fledgling groundhog searching for its lonely shadow, When the cold weather is upon me and other important things seem to happen, I have no reason to run As long as the warm night air is surrounding us I believe nothing serious will happen and there will be no good reason for me to hang up my smoking gun, or learn about other effective ways that I could use to vanquish my joyless life.
