Soviet Drab

If you are like most of us you may overlook the daily images that may have an impact upon your conscious mind But in some instances the significance of the image will break right through In the Soviet tenements that are studded across the former bloc the dreariness will eventually take you down if you have had any inkling to bear your soul or reveal who you might be But the melancholy is deepest in winter when a smiling face is nowhere to be found Large concrete blocks that house the workers Basically it is an army barracks the product of two horrid world wars and the bunkers are always very near But light is necessary Lies and hate will destroy who you really are unless you decide to become one of them And I guess there are some people who believe there is strength in numbers But when you get right down to itthey are merely cowards in the end They seek the comfort of the majorityhowever wrong they may really be But the real sadness comes when they receive information from abroad And when one or two thinking people begin to share their point of view This is when the real madness starts Because corrupt people will do anything that they can to grab hold of their fleeting power So they will purgeand they will try to annihilate anyone who is perceived to be a threat But their lack of culture often shines right through Their arguments are based on falsehoods And their only strategy is to repress what you have inside you So there you have it Small communities studded across places like Russia and Ukraine They are units to hang your clothes and rest your head But you must dig so deep to find any trace of beauty In these Soviet tenements depression often reigns Give me a shot of vodka and a boiled potato because if I look at it anymore I won't be able to take it I would like to tell my neighbor But you know I am afraid he would call the police It is likely that they would only create another document for one more mindless bureaucrat to sign And you know what would happen? Maybe they would put pressure on me to grease the wheel or better yet they would enjoin a local personto make some fictitious requirement so that I would have to pay again
