Requirements to Become a Physical Therapy Assistant

A licensed professional who works next to a licensed physical therapist is called a Physical Therapy Assistant or PTA. Similar to nursing assistants, a PTA gives straight and direct aid to patients who are in pain from the clause that affects their ability to move on around and their capacity to engage in their everyday doings.

Different changes that take place with aging can be possible lead to problems with mobility. Such as difficulty of getting in and out of a chair, can't afford to stay longer walk or fall. Joint problems, pain, muscle pain and neurological difficulties are usual situation for older people, that can all be factors of mobility problems. If you are familiar with these situations and have knowledge of somehow helping and assisting these people, then you are fit to be a physical therapy assistant.

A job of a PTA is not just simple as washing dishes, because like a nurse, it helps in assisting sick and in pain people. That's why to be a PTA you must have to pass their standards for them also to know if you are ready to provide the best service to clients who have lost their mobility. Becoming a PTA in general requires formal education and licensure.

Achieve Real Experience- being involved in some groups or organization, or volunteering with a Physical Therapist in an organization or health care center or nursing homes will eventually boost you to improve experience.

Accredited Education Program- The biggest factor of being a PTA is your degree. You must earn an associate degree in physical therapist assisting. You must accomplish a two-year degree program which is approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

Become License- Apart from having a PTA degree, licensing requirements also differ from state to state. Majority of states obliged to pass the state examination, First Aid CPR Certification and required completion of working hours.

Seek Employment- Being a Physical Therapy Assistant you can find employment in a huge range of the surroundings. In fact, outpatient facilities, home-health care services and nursing homes also give opportunity and hire physical therapy assistants. In a meantime, newbie's assistants may just first look for employment in an orthopedic clinic, skilled nursing units and in small hospitals, which have a greater possibility to increase their job opportunities due to the growth of elderly population.

Pursue a Specialty- Even though it is not required, physical therapy assistant had their choice on which clinical field would they be specialized in. There are seven areas certified for physical therapy specialist who includes aquatic, pediatric, cardiovascular, and neuromuscular physical therapy as stated by The American Physical Therapy Association. To be qualified in the area of expertise certification, the applicant must be a member of APTA, and with at least five years of working experience and major abiding education credits. Proof of involvement in the profession or employment certificate and letter of reference are also needed to be submitted.

The job as a Physical Therapy Assistant can be, likewise, rewarding because you are serving people to recover functions that enable them to live a normal life and independently.
