What Would a Utopian Post Capitalist Society Look Like - Is a Smooth Transition Possible?

February 14, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 304

May I ask a few questions? Mostly just thinking out loud - what happens when production becomes too efficient? What happens when robotics are created to do all the work? What happens when a capitalist society becomes so abundant that everyone is free from want? What happens then? Now then, I'd like to talk to you for a few minutes if I might, but I want you to realize that I am a capitalist through and through, and retired entrepreneur, and I believe in capitalism over socialism or communism any day. Not just because I study history, because I participated in capitalism and I know it works.

Let me build my logic tree and foundational argument - can we please first agree that; "A society gets more of what it rewards, regardless of what that reward is." This means if we reward riches, fame, or social acceptance to cheaters, manipulators, spoiled kids, or social networking entrepreneurs then we will get more people emulating those things trying to become such.

What if we started rewarding those who are the best at what they did regardless of their profession? What if we gave awards to the top skateboarder in the world, the best grocery bagger, the safest bus driver, or things of this nature? Would that be something worthy? And who says we have to reward them with money? It seems, that we have a challenge in the world where we are able to create and produce so much, so quickly, that everyone will have everything they want, and if we continue to produce there will be too much.

If everyone has everything they want there will be no reason for them to work to produce anymore, but they are still human needs such as food, shelter, clothing, and the rest of the things on Maslow's hierarchy of needs. People will need money for those things, but there will be no jobs, or reason to employ anyone, because no one will need anything else, and all the necessities are easily provided for. Is it possible that capitalism is too efficient, too great, and produces too much abundance to continue in the long-term?

Yes, I dare to ask the questions, we must be honest with ourselves, and one more question that we haven't discussed yet. Is all this nonsensical government intervention in capitalism which is destroying the benefits of capitalism, actually staving off the future of premature transfer into the future next step and transition into a Utopian society and civilization?

And again, remember I am a capitalist, but we could use some more philosophical thought here, not from the communists and socialists who want to trash capitalism, but the forward-looking people who want the best and agree the only way to get there is to reward excellence. Please consider all this and think on it.
