A Good Many Philosophers Are Stuck in Circular Arguments With Overwhelming Hypocrisy

June 13, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 163

Being a realist and a doer, it's extremely hard to get sucked into the philosophical conundrums and circular arguments enjoyed by academic philosophers and professors. If you study philosophy long enough you will realize that almost every topic has several sides to the coin, all contradictory, yet, all relevant to the subject. Many believe that philosophy is important because it gives people wisdom, and a better understanding of what is going on.

Whereas that may be true, it might also prevent them from doing anything because they are too busy considering all the ramifications and aspects of every side of that coin. Okay so let's talk about this for second shall we? There is probably not a philosophical statement that anyone can make, or that I've ever heard that isn't debatable. This of course gives job security to the philosopher, as they can think on one topic and circular argument forever never reaching a complete conclusion, and even when they have or rather think they have, another philosopher comes along and logically points out their faults, and why they may be incorrect.

It's not that I don't believe that philosophy is an important subject, or that I am down on liberal arts colleges. Of course, I had to quit school to run my business, so I didn't have time to engage in such matters, nevertheless, I see that many people who have philosophy degrees may sound quite brilliant, but how smart can someone be if they are too busy thinking about what they're going to do, but they never actually do it. It's almost like analysis paralysis, and what good is someone like that in the real world.

Now there are professors of philosophy teaching at college and they might be the big man on campus, and received accolades from students, as they blow their minds with these philosophical conundrums challenging morality, intellect, and all we think we know. Granted, but if their own lives are based in the same hypocrisy as the counterpoints to their own arguments, then who is living the correct life in that case? What I'm asking is; who really has the better understanding of the world we live in, and how we should live our lives, or what all of this is really about, or where we should go from here?

Yes, these are fun things to think about, but don't let your mind get caught in the trap, it's your mind, it's yours to use how you choose, if your choice is to bound your mind by wrapping it very tight like a baseball and sticking it inside of a box, then go right ahead. But I would submit to you there's a whole new world out here waiting for you, if you can put some of those arguments to rest, and simply laugh it off, understanding that life is full of philosophical conundrums, and you aren't going to change that fact. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
