More Pet Friendly Beaches

Here is the second part to our guide to some of the very best dog friendly beaches in Devon.

Croyton Cove Beach Croyton Cove, or Gentleman's Cove as it was formerly known, is one of the hidden delights. The cove has plenty of rock pools to explore, colourful beach huts to use, a stretch of sandy beach and even the occasional sighting of dolphins. No dogs are allowed between May and September.

Sidmouth Beaches Sidmouth is one of the most popular coastal towns in Devon and over its history it has played host to Royalty and some of the most prominent celebrities including the Grand Duchess of Russia, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Princess Victoria. The town has an abundance of charms and attractions besides is great beaches with the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site just a stones throw away. No dogs are allowed between May and September.

Dawlish Town Beach The beach is just a short stroll from Dawlish town centre and is a great place to catch a boat trip of the bay where you can spot dolphins or try your hand at fishing and catch your own supper. Thankfully there are plenty of restaurants and of course traditional fish and chips shops should your fishing not prove fruitful. Dogs are allowed along the seashore from the slipway next to the railway station till 230 meters before Red Rock in Dawlish Warren (Red Rock is the name given to the red rocky outcrop).

Exmouth Beach Exmouth beach boasts one of the longest stretches of beach along the South Devon coast with two miles of golden sand, as well as a two mile long promenade featuring plenty of English seaside favourits such as swing boast and crazy golf. Exmouth also marks the start of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, one of the most fascinating and important stretched of coastline to be found anywhere in the world. No dogs allowed between May and September.

Budleigh Salterton The beach is 2.5 miles long and is made up largely of pebbles. This stretch of Devon coast is part of the western most section of Jurassic coast and its tall cliffs are made of the distinctive Red Devonian Sandstone. The beach is popular with families with a beachside cafe and beach huts. No dogs allowed between May and September.

Shaldon Beach Shaldon beach is a mix of sand and shingle with great views of Teignmouth on the opposite shore and Dartmoor to its rear. The beach has long proved popular amongst local families. No dogs allowed between May and September.
