1. Carpenter ants will never eat wood; instead they will remove wood as they create galleries and tunnels by chewing through before disposing it at a desired location.

2. They tend to forage at night between sunset and midnight during spring and summer months.

3. A colony may at times establish one or more satellite nests in nearby indoor or outdoor sites.

4.Their satellite nests tend to contain workers, pupae, and mature larvae.

5. A carpenter ant satellite nest does not require moisture because the workers do not tend eggs, this is because the eggs would dry out without sufficient humidity.

6. They are frequently seen out in the open air.

7. When they are outside, they feed on living and dead insects.

8. They are polymorphic workers which means that within one species the workers are found in different sizes.
