Maximize Your Personal Trainer Salary

May 30, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 150

The salary of a personal trainer is normally considered the entire remuneration a trainer earns, including bonuses, tips, insurances and other monetary benefits. Just to be clear it is important to define a personal trainer as being a trainer in the health and fitness realm, i.e. a person who develops exercise routines for clients, is also responsible for watching the client perform the exercise routine, and additionally monitoring the general health and well-being of a client and their dietary habits.

A fitness trainer may find work in a health and fitness center, gymnasium, or can also carry out freelance work. This involves a freelance trainer going to people's homes to give them personalized training face-to-face. A personal trainer salary may vary greatly based on where one works.

Another factor that will influence the salary of a trainer will be the experience he/she has in this field, i.e. the number of years one has worked as a fitness trainer. A personal trainer's career path usually follows the following pattern:

First of all, the trainer completes a degree in nutrition or physical education or any fitness-related field, in order to get the necessary educational background.

Next, the trainer finds work in a fitness center or gym, where he/she is able to get valuable experience working with different individuals who have different levels of fitness. If the trainer works in a busy fitness center or gym, he/she gets valuable experience that can help them in future, whether it is in increasing their potential salary or acquiring clients.

After getting that vital experience as a trainer in a fitness center or gym, one then starts to concentrate on individual clients. One may be employed as a trainer in the same fitness center or gym, or can quit their job to set up freelancer work, if they get clients outside their workplace.

Several factors can influence a personal trainer salary:

- The educational background of the fitness trainer. - The job quality of the personal trainer in a gym or health and fitness center. - The length of time the personal trainer served in a certain gym or health and fitness center as well as the salary he or she received there. - The demand for personal trainers in the region where the trainer lives or works. - Miscellaneous factors include the ability of a trainer to engage in networking in order to get clients and market themselves.

A fitness trainer often charges a fee for every session they conduct personal training. In the US, the average salary of a personal trainer may vary from about $15 each hourly session to about $90 each hourly session. In big American cities such as L.A. and New York City, the demand for trainers is quite high, and since residents of these cities place a high priority on their fitness, the average salary of a personal trainer is much higher compared to that of a trainer in a small town. In small towns, you'll find that the demand for fitness trainers is much lower since residents do not place such a high priority on their fitness.

When all is said and done, motivation, determination, and superior communication skills are three main factors that will help fitness trainers get their desired salary, notwithstanding the factors above.
