Why I Want To Be a Model - The Big Question to Ask

February 25, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 129

When asked, most people interested in modeling can give a long list of reasons why they would like to become models. However, you will agree that knowing the reason one wants to be a model is not enough if one is serious about becoming a model. One should have what it takes to be able to survive in this industry. For starters, it takes much more than just a slim figure and a pretty face to be a super model. Many girls who are pretty in person make terrible models while the plain ones can astound you. Though some qualities of top models are obvious, others might come as a surprise.

Mainstream modeling mainly refers to those models one sees on advertisements, magazines and billboards. There are different types of models, including specialty models, niche models, body parts models and plus-size models. The names of these different types of models explain what these models specialize in. Generally, the base limits for choosing models are very small. An average model should have a particular body type, be within the range of a certain height and have an excellent bone structure. These are the core ingredients needed for any model to make it into the industry. The value of skill and a good personality should not be underestimated as well.

Normally, when agents set out to look for fresh models to sign up, they adhere to a very particular set of physical criterion. Obviously, the first thing the agents will notice is how someone looks. In this regard, agents usually need girls who are very slim and taller than the average girl is. This need sometimes taints the image of modeling since people say it promotes an unrealistic human look. While this condemnation may be valid, it is with good reasons that models are required to be slender. For instance, clothes hang better on a slender body.

Another thing agents look for is good angles and being photogenic. Being pretty does not necessarily mean one is photogenic. Most of the time, this cause is determined by genetics, but there are aspects that can be learned. This quality is important since it helps cover up some angles lost during photography that is two-dimensional. Lack of proper angles can make even slim girls seem heavy on photographs.

The last quality that agents will look at is posture. This is a very important feature, since seventy percent of a model's career is spent on the runway. A solid walk and a good posture are necessary for all models. Unlike other things that might be hard to change, one can learn this quality. In order to decide which modeling path to follow, one should ask herself the question, "Why do I want to be a model?"
