Theatre Season Is Upon Us! Go See a Musical This Week

April 11, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 245

London has one of the best theatre districts in the entire world, and its right at your fingertips.

If music be the food of love, play on. We certainly hope they do when it comes to London's array of sparkling musicals. From tales of the Wicked Witch of the West and the Demon Barbour of Fleet Street to revolutionary uprising in Les Mis, there is so much going on in London's musical seen.

Theatre season is now upon us (it runs from April to September) - so have a look at some of the biggest and unmissable shows and see if there is anything that tickles your fancy.

Les Miserables

Les Mis follows the story of revolutionaries in France at the start of the 19th century. This impressive story of revolution, redemption and romance has been winning audiences since it first opened in Paris over 30 years ago, but it's the music that makes the musical. Beautiful ballads and heroic anthems are famous in their own right and they are what make the show. It's currently playing at the Queens Theatre, so go check it out - it's a musical must see.

So if you've ever heard 'Bring Him Home' at a remembrance service or seen Susan Boyle sing 'I Dreamed a Dream' and want to find out the story behind the songs go and see this.

This is one of the best in the business - there is simply no other London musical like it. The atmosphere from the audience is electric and has been for every show, every day for over five years now.

The theatre is full pretty much every night of the week. If the amazing music isn't enough then the stunning set design will be. Not only will you be part of theatre history if you go and see it, but the chances are you'll have one of the most memorable nights of your life - it's that fantastic. We challenge you to not be impressed.

Singin' in the Rain

Imagine Gene Kelly tap dancing his heart out under buckets of rain - it's one of the most famous movie scenes of all time and now you can see the real deal (without Mr Kelly of course) thanks to the Chichester Festival production.

This musical has some of the most memorable songs in the world - including, of course, that wonderful title song - you're sure to leave Singin' In The Rain with "that glorious feeling you're happy again", and now you can see them live - the way they were supposed to be seen and heard. This is a fantastic musical for all the family, and it's sure to give you that feel-good feeling and leave you tap dancing all the way home.

Sweeney Todd

Stephen Sondheim's musical about the Demon Barbour of Fleet Street, reaping his revenge on the people of London is one musical for those with more of a morbid interest- but don't let this put you off.

If you live in London or if you're looking for something to do in London then this an awesome way to get to grips with some of the city's dark history.

We all know this meaty story and now it's even better with Michael Ball (Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera) and Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake, Harry Potter) as the deliciously demonic double act, this show really is a cut above the rest.

Fame-driven showgirls, bloody crimes of passion, courtroom showdowns, sexy songs and smoking-hot dance moves - missing Chicago would be criminal, especially as it's now London's longest-running revival, at its new more intimate home the Garrick Theatre.

Most people know the story from the film - but the musical came first, so if you really want to enjoy an evening out at the theatre, or if you want to dive into the raunchy 1920's underworld, this is a must see musical. If not for the faint-hearted and probably not for younger audiences, but that's what makes this number really sizzle.

We're all feeling the pinch a bit, so big nights out on the town may be off the table. People always think the theatre is expensive but it doesn't have to be. Really affordable tickets are always there if you look for them, you can get your hands on some West End musical tickets at
