Planning a Child's Party

April 19, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 160

1. Venue - One of the most important aspects is choosing where to host the party. Ideally not at home unless you have nerves of steel! There are lots of options for holding parties outside of your home. To keep the budget to a minimum hosting your party at home in some cases is the only option. Great in the summer, as the children can be outside. Make sure that you restrict access to outside toys such as your trampoline as it will get wrecked and someone will end up getting hurt. Keep your sense of humour, and even if every aspect of the party doesn't go as planned, the most important part is to enjoy your child's big day!

2. Date - As most classes have their classes split by Winter, Spring and Summer babies, it may be worth asking around some of the other mum's of children in your child's class if they want to have a joint party or to check it won't clash. The last thing you want is to get your invites out a week later than someone else and nobody can come. Check your child's best friend can also make the date before sending out the invites.

3. Timings - Most parties are 1 and half hours to 2 hours long. Although you may think it's obvious, some families feeding routines are entirely different. So when specifying times for a party, be specific as to whether it includes lunch or tea. If it's not obvious say what's included on the invite.

4. Party Food - Don't go overboard on the food! Children get so excited at a party, their normal eating pattern goes out of the window, especially if mum is not around watching! Children tend to avoid sandwiches so if you're going to make them, make only a handful. Put the sweet snacks aside until they have at least managed a few savoury morsels. You could try food boxes. If each child is given a portion to themselves, they are more likely to eat this and there will be less wastage.

5. Guest List - From when they first start school, your child will probably want to invite the whole class! Unless you hire out a massive play area, only invite the children that your child actually plays with.

6. Invites - Make sure the invite is clearly written with home and mobile telephone numbers and your name! There is nothing worse than phoning up and not knowing the mum's name. Make sure you clearly state a finish time and a date for RSVP's. Usually 2 weeks before the actual party would be good as it gives you chance to chase up the stragglers and confirm to the venue.

7. Party Bags - Try and plan party bags well in advance. You can pick up some lovely unique party bag gifts online, avoiding the plastic tat that every parent despises! It's always good to have a few extra bags just in case. You can guarantee that the one parent who did not RSVP, will turn up to the party! Don't forget a party bag for your child!

8. Presents - As your guests arrive, put their present's into a box/bag so your child is not tempted to open them as they arrive. It prevents embarrassing moments such as your child throwing the opened present in the corner saying "I don't like that!" It also gives you a chance to sit down, enjoy your child opening the gifts, and make a note of who gave what ready for your thank you letters.

9. Name Badges - Prepare name badges for the children - the children will know who everyone is and you may, but your helpers will probably not.

10. Games /Activities - Ensure you have a schedule of games/activities and have a few spare ideas prepared just in case. You can guarantee that the timings will be ahead of schedule and it will prevent children running around in an excited frenzy at the end!
