Dealing With Chronic Bedwetting

June 14, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 164

Doctors may advise parents that bedwetting up to the age of five or six may still be considered as normal. However, there are a few cases when some kids do not simply outgrow their bedwetting problems. Thus parents and their kids may be faced with chronic bedwetting problems. Some kids may continue with the problem even when they reach adulthood. In such instances, the prolonged or secondary enuresis may be stressful for all family members who have to deal with it for a very long time.

Chronic bedwetting have been considered to be related to some physical or neurologically undeveloped bladder system and also to some deep sleeping patterns. Some children may sleep very tight that their brains are not able to receive the signal that their bladders are full and that it needs to be emptied. Experts also believe enuresis may be inherited from some family members who may have had the same issues while growing up. Other causes may include attention deficit disorder as well as some forms of allergies and learning disabilities as well.

Children who experience prolonged bedwetting issues may develop emotional, psychological and even social problems. They may be embarrassed by this condition and they have the tendency to withdraw from social groups and activities. Children who do not outgrow this condition when they are expected to do so may also develop low self-esteem or self-worth. Family members especially parents who feel angry and frustrated may worsen the way the kids feel about themselves.

However, instead of scolding and punishing kids, parents need to be supportive and to be helpful to them at this time. There are times when medication may be needed but parents have to consider the advice of experts especially the family doctor whom they trust. They may also employ some methods to help their children such as training them to control their bladder, helping them to get up during the night, or by letting their kids wear alarm devices. These are some effective means of lessening the problem.

Parents and kids may also need professional help especially if they need to deal with chronic bedwetting. The prolonged bedwetting issues may also cause severe stress on everybody at home. Thus even parents need to deal with their own anger and frustration without harming the well-being of their kids. Children do not also need to suffer more because of their situation that is already difficult for them to handle as they are growing.

There are ways that you can help your child bedwetting problems. You need to explain to your child that bedwetting is normal and you understand it. Before your child goes to waterproof bed sheets, you have to remind them to go to the toilet. Also, you need to limit the drinks you give to your child before bedtime.
