Walking Through New Zealand's Delightful Gardens

April 19, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 134

There are some public gardens in New Zealand that you simply must make time to visit while you're here. But these are not your ordinary gardens! While on walking holidays, New Zealand offers many wonderful views and experiences, and exploring these gardens below are amongst the most relaxing.

Eastwoodhill Arboretum

The Eastwoodhill Arboretum is arguably the best garden in the country. Perhaps the most intriguing fact is that this garden is the culmination of a single man's life's work. It showcases in excess of 3,500 different species of plants and is such an amazing display of varied flora that is has on many occasions been the subject of study by international scientists. The colours are vibrant and only get better heading into the autumn months. Remember to take a camera with you so that you will be able to capture beauty, the likes of which you may never see again. At least not until you come back to the Eastwoodhill Arboretum next time!

Hamilton Gardens

These gardens are located along the banks of the beautiful Waikato River. This expansive 143-acre reserve is an idyllic setting for casual walks that allow you plenty of time to stop and take in the magnificent flora. The development started approximately 30 years ago and has led to the modern day miracle that is the Hamilton Gardens. It includes such offerings as an English garden, an Asian garden, herb gardens, and a plethora of unique tree life.

Dunedin Chinese Garden

There are only three authentic Chinese gardens that exist in the world outside China - and the Dunedin Chinese Garden is one of them. Chinese artisans originally constructed this garden in Shanghai. They later took it apart and sent the various components to its current location to become the Dunedin Chinese Garden. The reassembling process was overseen by Chinese craftsmen to ensure that the end result was a genuine Chinese garden. This beautiful garden is a rarity and merits a visit from those lucky enough to find the opportunity.

Mona Vale

This garden is a smaller offering, often overshadowed by some of the larger ones of the country - but if you get the opportunity to visit, don't pass it up. It is spread out around a Victorian home and has many attractions that make it more than worth a side trip on your walking holidays. New Zealand has many lesser-known attractions like this just waiting to be discovered. Mona Vale has irises scattered along the banks of streams, glorious fountains, and classic roses that thrive in this environment. There is so much to see here on your walking holidays; New Zealand residents even come out to spend time in this luxurious garden to enjoy its beauty.

Each one of these gardens displays its own special merits in design and plant life, and each one offers you a new view on the diverse landscape. For walking holidays, New Zealand is unmatched, and even those of mild levels of fitness can enjoy walks like these ones.
