Family Breaks in the UK - The New Forest

March 22, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 97

There is simply no better place for Family Breaks in the UK than the New Forest in Southern England. If you're looking for beautiful, relaxing surrounding with plenty to see and do, then look no further. Situated mostly in Hampshire near the South Coast, the New Forest is a fantastic area to explore with the whole family.

The ancient woodland is steeped in history as it began life as William the Conquerer's own personal hunting grounds! So you can be sure you are walking through 1000 year old forests. Many of the animals William hunted still remain including the New Forests own deer population, very shy and timid they can be difficult to spot. However not difficult to spot are the New Forest ponies which are not shy!

The New Forest is highly accessible with excellent road access as well as public transport links to London, Southampton and Lymington. There is accommodation to suit everyone with plenty of camping and caravan sites, B&B's, self-catering cottages and hotels. The best deals to be had are online, with some outstanding discounts to be had! The advice is to book early as during the summer holidays most of the accommodation is booked well in advance.

It would be a crime to visit the New Forest and not meet its friendliest residents - the famous New Forest Ponies. These wonderful creatures are officially classed as 'wild' and care should be taken around them - nice to look at but don't touch is a good motto! The splendid woodlands and rare heathland are also home to plenty of other animals - so keep those eyes peeled!

There are some truly fantastic restaurants in the local area with locally sourced produce and inspirational menus. If you would prefer to self-cater, a great idea for 'Al Fresco' cooking is to use one of the purpose-built barbeque areas at various car parks throughout the area. These are particularly popular during the warmer months.

Walking is a popular activity throughout the New Forest and there are plenty of waymarked routes to keep even the most avid of hikers occupied! For the more adventurous, detailed Ordnance Survey maps offer the flexibility and freedom to go further afield. The walking and cycling tracks are kept separate so you don't have to worry about bikes flying past when out on your relaxing evening stroll.

The New Forest is the perfect place for Family Breaks in the UK with as much or as little to do as you so wish!
