The Negative Impacts of Obesity on Women

February 17, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 159

It is no secret that the American population is getting bigger and bigger by the minute. But, this new growth is calculated by weight and not by people. Unfortunately, much of the American population is overweight. Adults are not the only ones who are overweight. American children are also affected by obesity. This condition negatively changes the body in the long run. Many times the things that are affected cannot be changed. So, the following article will list the negative impact of obesity on the body.

The Continuous Cycle Begins

Ask the average overweight woman and she will confirm that she is a very unhappy person. Sure, she might try to pretend that being a big girl does not bother her, but until she loses the weight, she has no other choice but to accept her present condition. Regular physical activity and a healthy diet will help to ward off obesity. However, due to her large size, she is not able to exercise without experiencing discomfort. Every time that she tries to exercise, she experiences shortness of breath.

As a result, this causes her to just sit around the house, and high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes enter the picture. Diabetes and high blood pressure are expensive in terms of medical treatment. She must either pay for expensive medical bills or medicines. These things will cause her to dish out a lot of cash on a monthly basis. Because she cannot pay her bills, this totally depresses her. She understands that at this point, she has to get rid of the extra weight, but she is too tired and depressed to do it. She also knows that obesity is affecting her lifestyle in a negative way. But she feels too helpless to make the needed changes to get her lifestyle back on track.

Does this example sounds like you in a way? This type of scenario plays out for many American women. Not only is obesity bad for you physically, but it starts to negatively affect your mind as well.

How Obesity Affects the Body Negatively

One can get heart disease just from being overweight. The extra fat in your body will lead to plaque build up in your coronary arteries. This will block the amount of oxygen rich blood that is transported to your heart. Unfortunately, this plaque can trigger a heart attack. In extreme circumstances, this build up of plaque can lead to heart failure.

Obesity can trigger strokes. Plaque buildup is also the culprit in this scenario. However, in this instance, the plaque will crumble into tiny pieces and change into a blood clot. If this blood clot goes much further to the brain, then it can obstruct the circulation to the brain. This will lead to stroke.

Obesity results in a build up of excess estrogen. Most women may have never heard about this, but an increase in estrogen will lead to hormonal imbalance. Then, it can turn into cancer in your reproductive system. More estrogen and fat will produce even more insulin production. This will produce more cancer cells. Secondly, the accumulated estrogen in your body will make your menstrual cycle out of whack. In order to ovulate every month, your body needs a balance of both estrogen and progesterone.

If there is an imbalance of progesterone and estrogen, then you will not ovulate. This means that even if you want to get pregnant, your body will not release an egg for fertilization. Obesity is the key cause for many women not being to get pregnant. They have too much estrogen in their bodies. Your only other option is to get rid of a few pounds so that you can make your reproductive system function properly. A lot of times it only takes a reduction of 20 percent of your total body weight to see a difference in your menstrual cycle.

In conclusion, obesity is a roller coaster ride that many women never seem to exit from. Find a way to make a change so that your life can get back on track again.
