Great Tips to Detox

April 11, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 113

Detoxification, or detox, is a quick fix dietary regime for better health. With so much celebrity endorsements and widespread product marketing, it's no wonder his new age health option is all the rage. But is detox the right way to go for you?

A nutritionist from Juvanex who speaks for their 7-Day Detox Program, Tania Lee explains, "Detoxification is the process of removing toxic chemicals and wastes from the body by either neutralizing them or transforming them into non-harmful forms that can be eliminated." During the process, toxins are neutralized and transformed in the liver, and is then eliminated from the body via the kidneys through urination and the gastrointestinal tract through defecation. Growing research continues to show a diet that lacks certain nutrients may weaken the body's natural ability to breakdown chemicals. The cumulative load puts a burden on the body by disrupt our normal metabolic rate and weaken our immune system. In the long run, we will fall sick. Signs of toxin build-up include bad breath, indigestion, fatigue, muscle pain and poor skin.

Tania advises that we should understand the objectives of the detoxification and seek advice from a qualified health or medical professional before starting any detoxification programme. A good detox diet should be simple and short without compromising on its effectiveness.

How to Detox At Home

If you are in good health and have your doctor's consent, try this simple three-day detox programme when your body starts to feel sluggish or once a month. Bear in mind that you will probably suffer slight headaches, flu-like symptoms, occasionally diarrhea and irritability initially, so it's best to detox over the weekend. You'll feel rejuvenated and raring to go the next week.

Eat nothing but raw food for three days. You can have any fruit or vegetables whenever you feel like. Try a variety rather than the same old thing all the time. Cut out tea, coffee and carbonated drink. Drink only freshly squeezed juice and plenty of water. Herbal teas are fine.

Strenuous exercise could make you feel light-headed. Some yoga poses help toxins exit your body faster. Use this time to calm your soul as well by sitting in silent contemplation, listening too soothing music and reading uplifting books. Come out of your detox regime gradually. Don't tuck into a greasy breakfast or lunch on the first day after your detox. Your body will not react well to the sudden avalanche of cooked food after its three-day diet. Don't extend this detox to more than three days!
