Critical Information That Needs to Be on a Nonprofit Website

April 04, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 153

The design of a nonprofit website is quite different from that of a commercial website. While both are primarily meant to create awareness, they do so in pursuit of very different outcomes. The commercial website is meant to sell products for profit while a nonprofit website is meant to promote a cause or create awareness about the activities of a particular organization. For commercial sites, success is measured by the amount of profit attributable to the website, while nonprofits measure success of their sites by the number of people who have been effectively reached through it.

So as to have a highly effective website, nonprofit organizations need to remember a number of critical basics when designing their site. The first critical aspect that needs to be factored in the design of a nonprofit website is that the site must tell people about the organization. This means having information about its founders, background, mission, motivation and thing else that may be relevant. The information needs to give a clear picture of what the purpose of the nonprofit organization is and how it came into being. When associating with a nonprofit, most people want to have an in depth understanding of what it does, where it is coming from and where it is headed.

In addition to information about the organization, a nonprofit website will need to include information for its donors. This means reaching out to new donors while appreciating those they have worked with in the past. The information should include procedures to follow when looking to donate to the organization, how the money raised so far has been spent as well as specific programs and projects that donors can support. It is always important to list down the various ways through which donors can make their contributions. The options could include online payments, using credit cards, office visits, mobile money transfers and any other means that are applicable.

Another very important piece of information that should be included on a nonprofit website is the success achieved so far. In many cases, this involves the posting of photos that show physical work, beneficiaries of the projects and stories of how lives were transformed by the work the nonprofit is undertaking. The successes achieved are a motivation for donors and others involved in its projects. Seeing the real people who have been touched and reading their stories goes a long way in giving some satisfaction to those who have given so much to achieve success.

Information on how to volunteer with the nonprofit should also be included in its website. With a lot of nonprofits depending on volunteers who do not stay for very long to do most of their work, Information on volunteering is necessary to ensure that the organization always has enough staff and a waiting list that can fill in for any sudden departures.

With the above information included on the website, your nonprofit will have covered the most basic and critical areas of communication with a majority of its audience. News, current events and future plans should also be included on the web site. By providing this critical information, your nonprofit website is going to achieve it primary objective of creating awareness and effectively reaching out to as many people as possible.
