A trance state characterized by extreme suggestibility, relaxation and heightened imagination. Hypnosis is a form of unconsciousness resembling sleep-contemporary research suggests that hypnotic subjects are fully awake and are focusing attention, with a corresponding decrease in their peripheral awareness.

A part of healing from ancient times. The induction of trance states and the use of therapeutic suggestion were a central feature of the early Greek healing temples, and variations of these techniques were practiced throughout the ancient world. Modern hypnosis began in the eighteenth century with Franz Anton Mesmer, who used what he called "magnetic healing" to treat a variety of psychological and psycho-physiological disorders. The term hypnosis comes from the name of Hypnos, the ancient god of dreams.

Sleep Hypnosis

Do you lie awake at night tossing and turning, tired but unable to go to drift off - The most dreary experiences you can have. And especially dreary if you are going through it on a regular basis. It seems that the harder you try, the worse it gets. Frustrated and can not go to sleep. INSOMNIA!!

Being in a hypnotic state is not the same as being asleep. However, under hypnosis, therapists influence the mind and the body to create better sleep patterns. Using hypnosis to sleep better trains the mind to release the day's worries and concentrate on getting a full night of rest. Hypnosis does not result in chemical side effects or dependency. Sleep hypnosis naturally relaxes the body and mind so that it can go into the proper stages of sleep at the right time.

Hypnosis have been confused with sleep. Hypnosis itself are not sleeping. However, people who permit themselves to be hypnotized usually always find that they sleep better at night. This is true even for those who have not experienced problems going to sleep. It is not surprising that hypnosis is an exceptional tool in helping people overcome insomnia. The first method of helping overcome insomnia is to induce the hypnotic state and find out from your own subconscious mind what has been causing the problem. This is followed by getting your subconscious mind to understand that there is no reason the problem needs to continue, and to work out the solution. The final step is to give suggestions that enable you to go to sleep easily, and sleep peacefully and comfortably throughout the night.

Things You Can Do to Help You Fall Asleep:

* Develop a nightly routine and follow it every night. * Go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning. * Avoid naps until you have established a regular sleeping routine. * Keep your bedroom at a comfortable temperature. * Try reading for about ten or fifteen minutes before going to sleep.* If your mind is agitated and it seems like you have difficulty slowing it down, get out of bed and do something * Try exercising before you go to bed. Take an evening stroll around the block or do some other exercises about a half hour prior to going to bed. Do not exercise and then hop into bed right away. Exercise stimulates your system. * Drink some hot milk or hot chocolate or some other soothing drink, such as hot lemon juice before going to bed. Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
