Avoid Bias When Recruiting New Prospects

February 26, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 133

The one thing you never want to do when recruiting is discriminate. You should not make judgments about potential recruits for your business until you get to know them. The following are some situations you may encounter so you can learn from my experience with recruiting for network marketing.

In the network marketing business, you'll come across all sorts of network marketers. You'll find those who do things properly and those who do things wrongly. The key is to learn from other network marketers' experiences when it comes to recruiting prospects. There's a lot to be learned from withholding judgments regarding a prospect before you have spent some time getting to know who they are.

There have been times when one of my team members think they've discovered someone who's a perfect partner for the business. This potential recruit has just left her company and is promising to bring in people to our company. Now my team member thinks this nothing short of great, but in the end nothing good comes out of it. The person he recruited fails to do well; she hardly brings in the people she promised earlier. The bottom line: this new recruit is no dream recruit. The recruit leaves and my team member is left feeling terrible about the whole thing.

It is not uncommon for a recruit to look sketchy at first. They make lack everything you think you should be looking for. You may believe they have no aptitude, experience, or stamina for the grind of building a business network. The next thing you know they're complaining because you've been slow responding to them, as you've been prioritizing other aspects of the business. Soon such a person may end up being a top salesperson in the business, but on someone else's team.

Then there are those recruits who seem average at first, but don't seem to progress over time. They may simply seem to be stale, with mediocre results on a regular basis. Perhaps they are neither a good fit for your team or your type of business. When their statistics are analyzed deeper after a significant period of time, you discover that the few recruits they've gathered are nearly all top performers. What you may have is a recruit obsessed with efficiency, who spends his time recruiting the best and providing full support to his own team. Hopefully you didn't let this recruit slip by before you realized his downline team success.

Many times what you think will make a recruit successful isn't what turns out to make a recruit successful. It is often difficult to pick out those recruits that will succeed from those who will fail badly. You should always keep your eyes open for any individuals around you in any of the places you go and hang out for anyone who is willing to join and work with you. You shouldn't neglect anyone, from your neighbors to your relatives. Everyone around you should be viewed as potentially being a recruit. Don't be intimidated into thinking that you have to pick out the winners.

You shouldn't outright assume that a person won't make a good member of your network marketing team based on what they do or how much income they're pulling in. You don't know a person's potential until you've taken the time to get to know them and their circumstance. In network marketing, you shouldn't discriminate. If you do, you're going to miss lots of opportunities to help others achieve their dreams.

When you're looking for new members to join your team, give every person who shows an interest a fair shot. A person's interest in the business alone should count. Be open to anyone who shows an interest in the business because you really won't be able to tell who the star performers are early on in the game.
