Nature Is Amazingly Resilient And Get This - No Centralized Control

July 15, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 217

Most people would agree that Mother Nature through evolution has done a wonderful job organizing things. There is a food chain, and cyclical events, and all the while all the species on the planet seem to be able to survive in their niches. It takes a lot of planning to get that done, but isn't it interesting that Mother Nature does not have a centralized planning department that is running everything. Rather everything is running on its own, independently working to maximize efficiency within those niches to survive.

It turns out, that nature has done a super job, and perhaps this might be a lesson to mankind before he goes out and attempts to do geo-engineering based on inadequate and unconvincing research data to stop global warming, lest, we might tip the scales a different way and go into an Ice Age due to mankind's folly, ignorance, and species-centric attitude towards the dominion of animals. Likewise, when we look at large systems such as federal governments, economies, monetary systems, energy grids, or anything else we also ought to take some notes from nature.

Free-market capitalism is a lot like nature with all of its independent actors doing what they need to survive, and making buying and selling decisions based on those needs. If left alone it tends to flourish, however when a force gets behind it and tries to steer it down the road, generally they either go off a cliff, or end up in the ditch. Nature seems to have its own way of doing things, and when left to its own devices it tends to fix all the problems. In fact, I doubt there is very much wrong with the planet at all, it's generally us humans that cause the major commotion.

No one ever commanded a species to tell them what to eat, where to go, how to mark their territory, or whom to mate with to ensure the best traits for the future. Those species either lived and thrived, or died out based on choices made individually. When we observe this, we might consider the controlled chaos of nature. It is only mankind that attempts to tell everyone else how to live, and try to rearrange nature in some sort of grand scheme of things. It turns out in the end we aren't very good at it, and most of our decisions lead to unintended consequence.

Maybe we should take a note from nature, free-market capitalism, and limit the amount of central control unless it is absolutely necessary for survival. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this from a philosophical standpoint. Think on it.
