3 Of The Top 10 Mutual Funds To Buy From 2011

March 12, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 161

There are many investors who are in search of the top 10 mutual funds to buy from the past year. The year 2011 saw another year where just about everything in the investment world worked out smoothly. Stocks, both foreign and domestic, saw gains in the double digits, and bonds soared as commodities climbed higher. Nevertheless, the need for a diversified portfolio was always important in the instance that the market underwent a sudden change. While the economy of our country is still growing, the U.S. is facing a decidedly stubborn unemployment rate. The debt problems of Europe remain, and conflict in the Middle East and Africa continue to push up oil prices. The following is a list of three of the top 10 mutual funds to buy during the year 2011.

Franklin Utilities C Fund

First up is Franklin Utilities C (FRUSX). This fund has a long management tenure, and its size classification is average. Its minimum investment amount is $1000, but for an individual retirement account, that amount drops down to $250. Its expense ration of only 1% backs up its 0% front end load and 1% back end load. Its portfolio strategy includes looking for investment results each day, prior to expenses, and amount to one and a half times, or 150%, of what the Index's daily performance is. This fund is not diversified.

Invesco Utilities Investor Fund

Next on the list of 2011's top 10 mutual funds to buy is Invesco Utilities Investor (FSTUX). This fund has a small management tenure, and is classified as a small size fund. With an expense ratio of approximately 1%, and no front end loads or back end loads, FSTUX appears to be in pretty good shape. A minimum investment with this fund is $1000, but an IRA is only $250. The goal of this fund is growth over a long period of time in both principal and income. It invests in a diversified portfolio, and at least 40% of its assets could end up being shares from other countries.

The Invesco Utilities C Fund

Invesco Utilities C (IUTCX) is third on the list of the top 10 mutual funds to buy for 2011. Yet another investment provided by Invesco, this fund also has a share management tenure, and is classified as a small fund. While its minimum initial investment is $1000 and $250 fr IRA, the same as the other funds listed here, its expense ratio is 2%, and it has a back end load of 1%. The goal of this portfolio is capital appreciation over a long period of time. Like the Franklin Utilities C (FRUSX), these funds are non-diversified.
