Evan and Jaron: A Musical Powerhouse

June 12, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 187

For the better part of two decades now, we've been hearing this duo's memorable pop masterpieces that found their voice mostly in tv and film, then in heavy rotation on radio and beyond. Whether you're a fan of Evan, Jaron or the songwriting itself, there's little doubt that while these guys' faces aren't instantly recognized or mobbed in the street, their songs will be finding their way into stereos (and DVD players) for years to come.

'Crazy for This Girl' is the one that probably jumps out first, and was laid to tape by Evan Lowenstein and Jaron Lowenstein in 2000 (before becoming a staple via the popular 'Dawson's Creek' tv show). The duo, which had first been discovered at the `96 Olympics in Atlanta (with a little help from a friendly coffee-house patron named Jimmy Buffett), went from coffee-house success to album sales with the release of the 'Evan and Jaron' album. While the album spawned the fantastic 'The Distance' (which made its way to the 'Serendipity' soundtrack and continues to draw major hits on YouTube) and 'From My Head to My Heart'. While success came fast and furious in the early 2000's, the strong religious beliefs of the duo were put to the test as they were strict Sabbath-keepers, and bristled at the notion of playing gigs from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.

Also, touring was quickly becoming untenable for soon-to-be family man, Evan. Jaron would go on to craft a strong solo album in 'Getting Dressed in the Dark' and had a strike in the country charts with 'Pray for You' in 2010. Jaron's album peaked at #2 on the Billboard Country Top Albums charts, and has stood him in good stead for further releases. 'Pray for You' became an absolute staple on satellite radio (I used to hear it myself about 4 times a day or night).

The duo reunited in an unusual way, pitching a 'seed container' for the 'American Inventor' TV series in 2006, but their songs continue to remain in pop-consciousness. With impeccable vocal harmonies, hooks that are far more engaging than annoying, Evan, Jaron and their bag of pop-magic crafted a crisp but organic sound that was bright and soulful all at once.

While the duo seems to be living separate--but amicable--lives for now, is a full-on musical undertaking out of the question? Stranger things have happened, and the world could certainly use a dash of this duo's musical charm.
