Stop Procrastinating and Start Charging With These 5 Tips!

April 12, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 127

"Procrastination is, hands down, our favorite form of self-sabotage." ~Alyce P. Cornyn-Selby

Over time, people have reached out to me to say they feel like they are in a slump; they feel tired and unmotivated. Many of them told me they have a ton of great projects to complete, but they keep procrastinating.

I am here to tell you it is perfectly normal. Yes, even for a highly motivated person! You are allowed to get in a slump, delay your work and feel a bit down. It is a normal response to changing seasons, changing schedules, and changing responsibilities. Getting back into the "grind" of the school year, normal work schedules, and trying to create a great end of the year can be an overwhelming task. If you are a cow, you will let this melancholy attitude last all the way until Thanksgiving, and then you will lose yourself in the excitement of the Holiday season, only to be let down again when January comes!

If you are truly a motivated person, then it's time to stop complaining and it's time to start CHARGING! Sure, you're allowed vacations, the day off to chill, a day to sleep in, but it cannot control your life! I know I just told you it was okay to get down, but then you must get back up and start charging! It is the only way to prevent living a life of mediocrity. The cow mentality of living a life of mediocrity means that they stay "down" most of the year. They look forward to three day weekends, a winter vacation, a summer vacation, and the occasional sick day to brighten up their world.

You're different. You're motivated! Everyday can feel like a holiday when you are this way! You create your life, your attitude, and you determine what you will do with your life! If you are not happy with the way things are, then change it! Is it that easy? Yes. You can begin today to create the life of your dreams by changing your thoughts, your actions, and your habits. Procrastination is simply a habit. It is a habit that you can change and it will dramatically change your life.

"Procrastination is one of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is heavy." ~Wayne Dyer

5 Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Start Charging!

1. Look at your calendar. Right now is the time to map out your next four months to bring happiness and meaning to your life. Write down your major goals for the next four months. Example- run a 5k, save $5,000, paint the living room, go to Florida with the kids, launch a new product, read a certain book. List out the goals important to you on a calendar with a drop dead date-a date you must have this item accomplished. This will immediately help you eliminate distractions and focus on the items that excite you. "Until you value yourself, you will not value your time. Until you value your time you will not do anything with it." -M. Scott Peck

2. Start moving. "Don't wait. The time will never be just right". -Napoleon Hill. The worst thing you can do is sit on the couch or lay in bed thinking about all the things you could be doing. Feeling guilty about sitting on the couch, eating ice cream when you know you should be on the treadmill, only makes your procrastination worse. Get off the couch and simply start moving! A body at rest stays at rest, a body in motion stays in motion. Getting up and moving is the first start. Its better to start moving even in the wrong direction then not move at all. It starts the blood pumping, the ideas flowing, and you get out of your rut. Tonight, don't watch TV, instead walk on the treadmill, organize your office, and start to write a book, map out your career path, read a book in your field. Do things that enhance your life!

3. Delete the cow actions, behaviors, and people. What bad people, bad habits and bad actions have made your year less successful then you expected? Make a list of the negative in your life and eliminate it now. That's right! Quit it cold turkey. Stop making excuses for yourself and start taking responsibility. If your bad habit is to talk bad about others, then stop it. If your bad habit is drinking a bottle of wine every night and being late for work, then stop it. If your bad actions are sitting on the couch instead of hitting the treadmill, then throw out your couch! If the bad people in your life prevent you from achieving your goals, expanding your horizons and letting you be the fullest expression of you, then it's time to move on! This may sound harsh but it is your life. If you really want something bad enough, you can have it. If you don't really want to change, then don't complain. "Procrastination is suicide on the installment plan." ~unknown author

4. Create a new schedule. You can create a brand new schedule. You can change what time you wake up, when you go to the gym, when you read a good book, what activities and groups you get involved with. Map out a perfect month with good activities and start getting involved with groups of people that do what you want to do in your life! Start doing the things you always say you were going to do! "Procrastination is the grave in which opportunity is buried." ~unknown author

5. Call all your positive friends! Make a phone call to each of your positive friends. Tell them you want to make the last 4 months of the year your most successful ever. Tell them you need their support to keep charging and focused. Ask them to be in your corner keeping you focused on success, and accomplishing your dreams. Tell them to make sure they push you when you start to become a cow! Everyone needs a coach to push them along. Find people close to you that inspire you and get them in your corner!

"We shall never have more time. We have, and have always had, all the time there is. No object is served in waiting until next week or even until tomorrow. Keep going day in and day out. Concentrate on something useful. Having decided to achieve a task, achieve it at all costs." -Arnold Bennett.
