How to Achieve Success - Where Do I Start?

February 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 111

When I am speaking on stage and talking with people from the audience afterwards, I get a sense that many of them have given up on themselves. Maybe they didn't go to college or only went a few years. Then they got married, kids came along and they had to settle for a job rather than the occupation of their dreams or entrepreneurship.

In a situation like this, we tend to make the best of it and focus on the positive aspects of our lives, but live in a state of quiet desperation as Thoreau mentions. We may share our dream with our spouse or family or friends, but the feedback we get is usually negative and we let their comments throw cold water on our dream.

So, what do you do? You never give up - that's what you do. The first thing you should do is what I mentioned in an earlier article. Go to your book store and buy yourself a book on achieving success. You feed your body every day and you should feed your mind every day. Reading books on achieving success will do two important things: Number one, it will open your mind up to the possibility that "yes, I can succeed!" And number two, it will counter balance the negativity that is poured into your brain that you cannot succeed.

The Difference Between a Vision and a Dream

Dreaming of success is something we all do and is borderline worthless. Dreams are passing thoughts that rarely stick. But envisioning is powerful. Coupled with reading books on success, envisioning your success can transform your life. In the morning, before you open your eyes and at night after you close your eyes to fall asleep, picture yourself living your dream. If your dream is owning your own business, picture yourself running it and getting orders. Hear the great things people are saying about your product and service. This is envisioning and envisioning is powerful.

I have never spoken to an audience of 10,000. Every night before I fall asleep, I envision myself doing so. I see their reaction of hope and I hear them laughing at my humor. I vision them shaking my hand after my speech and telling me that I have inspired them to accomplish more with their lives.

This is envisioning and as you can see is much more powerful than dreaming. Napoleon Hill said in his marvelous book, "Think and Grow Rich", "Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve."

One more thing: for the next 21 days, I want you to think and walk and talk like you have already accomplished your dream. This is a great game you can play with yourself and really shouldn't be shared with anyone else. It is a positive exercise and one that has been instrumental in the success of many who have accomplished great things.
