Tips On How To Maintain Your Undergarments: Mastectomy Bras Or Otherwise

April 20, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 127

Bras make an important part of every woman's closet - and for good reason. They are what keeps our most sensitive and life giving parts protected. For those who are using mastectomy bras, they are what improves our body image and maintain or self-confidence. But, there aren't a lot of women who know how to properly appreciate and take care of them. Some just pile them up like common laundry, while others have the audacity to use them repeatedly without washing, ignoring dirt and sweat stains on the linings. Here are some tips that hopefully will enlighten women on how to manage and keep their bras and live a more comfortable life.

The first rule in washing bras, whether it is a bandeau bra or a maternity bra, is to hook them back up before you do a load. That way, the hooks don't snag any fabric and ruin it. It would be preferable to place all your bras in a lingerie bag to minimize washing stress on the garment. But if you don't have that, clean them up by hand, instead of using the washing machine, so you could regulate the washing cycle better. Bras are made out of a sensitive material and should be handled extra carefully.

Some will have to be washed in cold water, too, so, pay special attention to the instructions found on the label and follow them accordingly. Always use a mild detergent when you are washing your bras, as stronger ones can deteriorate the fabric's color and degrade bands. It would also be advisable to remold cups before you wash them, to maintain their shape.

After doing a load, air-dry the bras. It's a much safer alternative than using the dryer, because the latter's high temperature has a tendency of ruining and stretching the bra's fabric. Always set aside a drawer solely for these garments, so they don't get squished and disfigured..

If you use a bra frequently, its lifespan would most likely be 3 months. But with proper care and maintenance, you can stretch that out to 6 months and maybe even a year. However, that may be a case to case basis, since these garments may also be forced to retire out of incompatibility. Regardless, you can use them for as long as the straps don't fall out, the back doesn't ride up and the wirings don't leave marks. If the moment comes that you see pilling, puckering or pleating in the inner lining, it is advised that you get a new set to wear, even if it hasn't reached 3 months, as something that has worn out may irritate your breasts.

Buying mastectomy bras or a bandeau bra frequently because of bad maintenance practices is not economic or practical. Lingerie is an expensive piece of clothing, as it can cost anywhere from $30 to $60 a piece. That's something you can set aside for food or utility expenses or even save up for a general physical once a year. In these economic times, it is best that you learn as much as you can about how to save on expenditure instead of frivolously using money up for underwear. What you have read now will definitely change the way you spend and experience your bras.
