Maid Service for Working Moms: Why You Should Take the Plunge

June 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 133

In today's economy working moms are the new norm. Dual income households are becoming a necessary reality for many American families. But if mommy has a day job then who does the dishes? And, more importantly: when?

This article goes out to all my working moms. These self-sacrificing souls come home from a long day on the job, change into sweats and punch in to their second shift. First comes dinner, then bath time, then bedtime and then if you are still on your feet there is always the housework. Piles of dishes, dirty laundry, and clutter all beg for your attention.

If you are a single mom like me, you are obviously on your own, and if you are married you may or may not receive a helping hand from your spouse. Arguments over the division of household chores can be common in dual income marriages. If you find yourself choosing dishes over play time or laundry over time with your spouse it may be time to consider hiring some help.

There are several common reasons why women shy away from hiring a cleaning service. A very common reason is guilt. You may feel like you should be able to "do it all" or you may feel like hiring a maid would be indulgent; something only lazy moms would do. There is a martyr mentality: "This is a sacrifice that I make for my family." The reality is that many of us sacrifice time with our families, husbands and friends to "prove a point".

The truth is that your kids don't probably care who washes the dishes and your husband doesn't care who washes his clothes as long as he can find a clean shirt to wear. Your family wants your time and attention. Your children aren't going to remember how the house looked on any given day, but they will remember how you took them to the park and played with them.

Cost is another factor for a lot of moms, but how expensive is maid service in reality? It may be more affordable than you think, so call around and get some quotes. Think about your housework burden and be realistic about your needs. You may only need someone to come in once or twice a week for deep cleaning or laundry. Some services will give you a discount if you set up a recurring appointment.

Think of maid service as an investment in your family, your home, your marriage and your health. You are purchasing more time with your children, more time with your spouse and more down time for yourself. It's worth every penny!
