Because You're You!

April 14, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 104

Mum: "You are special"

Child: "Why?"

Mum: "Because You're You!"

How many times have you had this conversation with your child? Other favourite mum/child phrases are:

"I love you just the way you are."

"Just be yourself and you'll be fine."

"Be yourself: you can do this!"

Mums seem to be desperate for their children to celebrate who they are and their special qualities. So why can't you think this way about yourself?

Women tend to struggle with an idealised form of perfection, which in turn makes it difficult to accept who they really are. Here is a fact: no one is perfect. Everyone in the world is different, which is what makes life so interesting and varied. So start celebrating your little quirks and embrace your special qualities!

  • Start focusing on all the good things you do and achieve rather than the negative thoughts that can cause anxiety. Think about all you do as a mum, partner, daughter, sister, friend and colleague.
  • Start to adjust your outlook. Stop dwelling on the bad things that happen to you; instead focus on the good around you and your happier experiences.
  • Think about all the great things you want to happen to you and create a plan of action to help you achieve these goals.
  • Come to terms with the fact that mistakes made in the past cannot be changed now. Stop harbouring a grudge about incorrect decisions you made or actions you took long ago. You can do nothing about it now: let it go!
  • Realise and acknowledge your imperfections - everyone has them! If you cannot change them, learn to accept them, they are what make you unique so stop letting them hold you back.
  • Stop worrying about what everyone else thinks. Your decisions are personal to you so don't fret about what others might think about your choices.
  • Stop giving yourself a hard time: this type of pressure does very little other than waste time and energy. Ask yourself, "Does it matter?" The likely answer is usually a resounding no!
  • Other people like you for who you are, so why can't you? Take a leaf out of their book and start loving yourself, oddities and all!

Starting to accept yourself for the woman you are will boost your confidence and strengthen your self-esteem. Start acknowledging how special you really are and improve your self-worth. You really are special and you should celebrate all you do for your family and for yourself!

Start your journey today - achieve confidence, balance and joy.
