12 Months With the Samsung Galaxy S2

April 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 162

I took the leap into the world of Android smart phones a couple of years ago when I purchased a Motorola Milestone which it has to be said was a very impressive device at the time, further down the line I stayed with Google's Android operating system and invested in an HTC Desire when they were first released which eventually led to me getting my hands on the best-selling Android smart phone of 2011; the Samsung Galaxy S2.

From the very moment I received the phone I was impressed, Samsung have managed to shrink down their packaging to almost the same width and height of the phone in order to keep fright costs low and save in excess packaging materials, but once that box was opened things went from impressive to exciting!

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is so very slim and and lightweight it's hard to imagine how they have managed to pack so much technology into its sleek housing, the first thing to hit you when you first turn on the Galaxy S2 is its amazing Super AMOLED screen, it is so bright and clear that you can even see it in direct sunlight - this was not the case with my previous HTC Desire.

For the first few weeks I really enjoyed showing off my new gadget and all of the features it had to offer, then as time progressed it became more of a very desirable business tool as I used it more for internet access and keeping up to date with the latest news, then a trip abroad was on the cards and this is where the Galaxy S2 really came into its own.

For the first time I could see and fully operate the touch screen on the beach thanks to that AMOLED technology and better still there's a feature that lets you turn the phone into a public Wi-Fi hotspot which proved invaluable when only a 3G connection was available.

But, after returning from my trip and stupidly dropping my pride and joy accidentally things took a turn for the worse, whilst browsing the internet one day the screen flashed 'super-bright' white, almost like a camera flash and that was the end of that amazing screen.... just darkness followed.

Being within my 12 months manufacturers warranty I sent my Galaxy S2 back to Samsung for repair only to be advised three days later (quick turnaround time!) that the phone had suffered from water damage, I knew this not to be true and was very disappointed with their service, however what happened next almost defies belief.

I took the phone apart myself to have a look inside to see what they meant by 'water damage', I honestly could not see how they came to that conclusion and screwed the phone back together, as I reinserted the battery something amazing happened, the screen came on all on its own!

Now, there is a downside here in that the camera no longer works, however the screen is still fully operational to this day and as I use it mainly for internet access this has been a god send.

All said and done, I am now at the end of my 12 month contract term and ready to take on a new handset, but there is no immediate upgrade to the S2 available, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is to be officially launched in London on May 3rd 2012 and despite all that has happened with my Galaxy S2 I am going to wait it out for their next flagship device.

I've looked at the new HTC One X which is probably the most advanced Android phone currently available but I have a feeling that Samsung will topple it with their Galaxy S3, so for now I continue to use my S2 and just hope that the screen holds out until next month.

There are thousands of Samsung Galaxy S2 deals and information about the release of Galaxy S3 deals available from the company I work for; Phones Limited.
