Why Companies Should Embrace Mobile Marketing

January 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 124

As marketing channels become more expensive and less effective, companies are looking for better ways of reaching their audience. The traditional newspaper and TV advertising is losing out. It is increasingly becoming evident that advertising dollars are being channeled to social media, internet and mobile marketing. But with only about 3 mobile million websites, it is evident not many companies have gone mobile as would have been expected. They surely need to as quickly as possible. Here is why...

Huge mobile adoption rates: More and more people are going mobile worldwide. Estimates forecasts put the figures at 5.8 billion handsets by 2013. Some countries like the United Arab Emirates have already achieved a more than 100% penetration rate. The US is fast approaching that milestone.

In addition, more sophisticated phones are getting into the market and people are going crazy about them. According to Nielsen, the New York based consumer research firm founded in 1923, about 30% of US mobile users had a smartphone in the year 2010. And this is expected to reach 43% by 2015. A clear indication that mobile can no longer be ignored. The increase of Smartphones also dictates that one should have a mobile website that these phones can easily read and trace your store.

Mobile is more engaging: The desire to stay connected has become an absolute survival strategy. This is especially so with the younger technology savvy generation. In fact, research shows that an average mobile user has his phone within arm's reach nearly all the time. Besides that, people read text messages within 4 minutes of receipt.

A text message is perhaps the only form of communication that you can use to reach someone even when they are in a meeting. Unlike TV or Newspapers ads, SMS effectiveness is far much higher. Open rates of as high as 98% have been recorded.

Location based: Local businesses are far more advantaged using mobile marketing than any other form of advertising. Consider a local restaurant. All one needs is to send coupons at 11.30 am inviting recipients for a discounted lunch. You can expect the restaurant will have far more patrons during lunch time than usual.

Think of a school. In case of an emergency, the head teacher just needs to send a text massages to parents and within minutes the children will be taken to safety. In both cases the expense is minimal and the recipients best placed to be served are local.
