Restaurant Wait-List Management Solutions With SmartCall SMS

May 10, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 139

Today, just about everyone is carrying some sort of mobile or smart phone device. The world is literally at our fingertips... and in the age of instant communication and immediate gratification, customers have little patience for waiting.

With the stakes so high, it's little wonder that restaurants find it challenging to manage customer expectations. And while technology has had a role in creating that challenge, it has also provided some pretty amazing solutions to make operations more efficient, more customer-friendly and more profitable.

Restaurant wait-list management systems and restaurant paging systems are right at the top of the list of those helpful solutions. And recently, restaurant wait-list management has taken a more convenient and affordable turn, thanks to the advent of web-based systems that allow waiting customers to be notified via text message on their cell phones.

Remember when we said, "Just about everyone is carrying some sort of mobile or smart phone device"? Well, these systems take advantage of the trend in a big way.

The benefits of web-based restaurant wait-list management and paging systems are numerous. First, they're convenient and affordable... the systems work with virtually any computer operating system with an Internet connection. That means there's nothing for operators to install or maintain - just load the software into a PC, and in minutes staff will be creating electronic wait lists with ease.

For added flexibility, integrated systems are available that give customers a choice of being contacted via text message, or with traditional restaurant pagers. And because it works with any wireless UHF pager, the system is easy to integrate with existing restaurant paging systems.

Imagine that you're the hostess of a restaurant on a busy Saturday night. Customers are beginning to pile up at the door, and some are even beginning to walk out. In the past (and in all too many restaurants even today), you would try to manage it all from a handwritten list. When a table opened up, you or the waiter would push through the crowds, calling out a name or trying to remember a face. If you were lucky, you'd find the party right away. But in most cases, it was a long table-turn, and in some cases, the table would be given away after you couldn't find the waiting party. And when they showed up at the hostess stand only to find out that their table had been lost - look out.

Fortunately, with web-based restaurant wait-list management and paging systems, all of these challenges (and inefficiencies) are a thing of the past. Instead of existing on a messy, confusing handwritten piece of paper, your wait list is now neatly organized on a computer screen. And when a table opens up, a simple click of the mouse sends a page or text message to the waiting party - they appear at the host station and your table turn is complete... quickly and painlessly. Now imagine you're a customer at the same restaurant on a busy Saturday night. You arrive at the host station, and are informed that it will be "about 30 minutes". The hostess inputs your name into the computer and assures that you will be notified as soon as a table is available. She suggests a drink at the bar, and offers you the option of being notified by a cafe pager or with your cell phone via text message. You and your companion don't feel like a drink, instead preferring to do a little browsing at some shops around the corner. You don't want to worry about wandering out of range of the pager, so you choose the text message. Twenty minutes later, as you casually browse through the shops, you receive a text - your table is ready... and sooner than expected.

Now that's a pleasurable restaurant experience... and one that is far more likely to ensure a return visit.

If you operate a restaurant, and you're looking for a simple, affordable way to manage the flow of customers and keep them coming back for more, consider the new trend in restaurant paging systems... web-based restaurant wait-list management and cell phone paging.
