The iPhone 4S And The New Panasonic Eluga - A Look At Display Technology And Processing Power

February 29, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 367

Panasonic is a company you would normally associate with producing televisions and digital cameras but they are turning their attentions towards the mobile phone market with the release of their first smartphone. The Panasonic Eluga is an attractive handset that offers some great features. We thought we would see how this exciting new model compares with the popular iPhone 4S for screen technology and processing power.

The new Panasonic Eluga is the first mobile phone to feature an OLED screen which is a technology that Panasonic are keen to incorporate in future home televisions. This display does produce great image quality and we were impressed by the vivid colours that the screen managed to display. In terms of resolution the Eluga offers 540 x 960 pixels which is a level that is higher than many other smartphones but slightly lower than what some more premium models such as the iPhone 4S can offer. The screen measures 4.3 inches which results in a pixel density of 256PPI. The Eluga may not display the highest quality that is available but it is certainly one of the more attractive screens. The phone actually offers the highest screen ratio on the market with 66% of the phones body dominated by this impressive display. Many phones have tried to rival the excellent iPhone 4S Retina display and to date not one has managed to match the excellent quality that this model offers in this area. The display is one of the smaller smartphone screens available at 3.5 inches but this has a positive effect on the pixel density. A great resolution of 640 x 960 pixels can be displayed which equates to a massive 326PPI. The screen technology on the Eluga may well dominate in the future but at this moment in time the Panasonic model cannot outshine the Apple device in the screen department.

The iPhone 4S may not incorporate the most powerful processor available but thanks to the efficiency of the iOS operating system the phone is one of the fastest for operating speeds. The models runs on the Apple A5 chipset that was launched at the same time as this handset. This set up includes a dual core 1Ghz Cortex A9 processor together with a PowerVR SGX543 graphics processing unit. These two chips combine perfectly with one another and deliver great multi tasking speeds and excellent performance when playing games titles. The Panasonic Eluga also uses a dual core 1Ghz processor which performs very well. Operation speeds on the phone do seem slightly lower than we experienced on the 4S but the difference was minimal. It is worth considering that the Panasonic model boasts a larger screen which is more demanding on the processor while the Android Gingerbread OS is not as power efficient as the iOS platform used on the 4S.

The Panasonic Eluga is certainly a very impressive debut smartphone thanks to an excellent screen and a powerful processor. The model would certainly outperform many premium phones currently available but unfortunately it does not manage to overcome the iPhone 4S. The Apple device leads the way for screen technology and also includes a processor that may not look like the most powerful but performs exceptionally well.

The iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus are available now.
