Sony Xperia P - Mid Or High Range Smartphone?

April 17, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 207

Back in February of this year, Sony announced one of its newest Xperia line under the code name "Nypon". Sony was proud to introduce the Nypon as Sony Xperia P. The only question is, is this a mid or high range smartphone? Well, in this article we will try to find that out and hopefully be able to put a category to it. Read on.

Back at the CES 2012, this handset was a "no-show". It came as a big surprise to a lot of people who were excited to see this new handset by Sony. But then again, some lucky ones were able to get up close and personal with the Xperia P. And because of them, this review is now out.

Let's now move on and talk about the phone's design. If you are familiar with the first Sony only branded smartphone the Sony Xperia S, then I am sure that you have an idea as to what I will discuss here. Anyway, the phone's actual design is similar to the rest of the new Xperia line (basically taking cue from the Xperia flagship the Xperia S). This handset is made out of plastic (predominantly) and it features the famous signature of the Xperia S (transparent strip) near the phone's capacitive navigation keys. Just like its older sibling the Xperia S, this handset is quite a looker. The phone's actual dimensions are 122 x 59.5 x 10.5 mm and it weighs in at 120 grams. This is not the thinnest smartphone today but it sure is thin enough to fit your tight pockets.

One of the phone's best features is its 4" qHD LED backlit LCD display. It comes in with a resolution of 540 x 960p and with a pixel density of 275ppi. The display comes in with WhiteMagic technology. It is also capable of delivering a brightness of 1000 nits. With this kind of number you will be able to see everything clearly even under heavy sunlight.

This handset ships with a powerful and super fast 1GHz dual-core processor. With its powerful and fast processor, you are guaranteed never to experience any kind of lag or hanging moments. This handset may originally ship with Android Gingerbread, but an Ice Cream Sandwich update is expected to land on this handset soon.

So what else is there? Well, there is the phone's 8MP shutter with a resolution of 3264 x 2448p. You will also get an LED flash and auto-focus on this handset. Features like touch focus and 3D sweep panorama are available on this handset. You will also get Geo-tagging and face and smile detection on this handset. This handset is also equipped with a front-facing VGA camera and can record videos at 1080p at 30 frames per second with continuous auto-focus and video light.

So after mentioning some of the exciting features and details of the Sony Xperia P, it is only right to assume that this handset is both mid and high range smartphone.
