New Ford SYNC AppLink Gives Drivers a Personal Navigator

January 10, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 141

The 2012 Consumer Electronics Show introduced hundreds of new innovations. One of those innovations was that Ford Motor Company has selected Scout® by Telenav, Inc.™ as the personalized navigation service to work with Ford SYNC® AppLink™.

The goal of this auto company was to choose Scout for a SYNC AppLink because it could provide a more personalized navigation experience for each driver.

Available on select Ford Motor Company models, SYNC AppLink is a program that allows drivers to access various smartphone apps using voice commands and buttons on their steering wheel. Scout, also announced at the 2012 International CES, is a new daily personal navigator from Telenav that is available on mobile phones (initially on the iPhone), online at the Scout website, and soon for Ford SYNC AppLink.

Apparently Scout is a daily personal navigator that eliminates the need to re-enter information every time you switch from a computer to your phone, or from a phone to your car. This will give Ford customers the chance to experience Scout as an integrated, personalized navigation service in the car, on their phone, and on the Web.

Scout differs from other navigation services because it provides a simple experience for daily information that is important and unique for each driver's personal journey. Drivers can easily and efficiently use this app to navigate their commutes, run errands, and search for places around them.

The personal navigator features include:

  • My Dashboard: Always know when to leave with traffic-based drive times at a glance
  • My Routes: Easy and reliable, award-winning Telenav® turn-by-turn directions
  • My Traffic: Use real-time traffic during daily commutes to avoid obstacles
  • My Places: Discover great new places nearby or near a destination
  • My Favorites: Remember favorite places and store them easily
  • My Music: Listen and manage iPod tunes without ever leaving the app
  • My Devices: Use the app on the phone, computer, or in the car

Scout for Ford SYNC AppLink will offer several benefits to drivers. With added voice control, Scout allows drivers to access and control a wide range of functions while keeping their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. Directions will be channeled through the car's speakers and visible turn-by-turn navigation cues are shown on the vehicle's LED display (located just above the radio). Additionally, Scout for Ford SYNC AppLink will give drivers access to the entire Scout service, so when they discover and save their favorite events and locations at the Scout website. And, they can seamlessly access these preferences through AppLink while in the car.

Scout is now available in the Apple® iTunes Store and at Scout's website. Scout for Ford SYNC AppLink will be available in the U.S. later this year. It is expected to be available on the 2013 Escape, the 2013 Fusion, the 2013 Edge, the 2013 Explorer and the 2013 Focus. For drivers with accounts on Ford's Sync My Ride website can visit that website for more information. There's nothing like having an automated "wing man" helping you find your way through your day.
